Guardians of the Atef

I applied for citizenship after offering to the Pharaoh to serve as a member of the Atef and him accepting that offer, I believe that at the time it was only myself and Severisen who had been willing to serve. I had been tempted to apply for citizenship prior to that just for the sake of it but, obviously, I did not do so. I imagine there were other reasons for my applying, however the Atef was certainly the primary reason and the one I was most conscious of.

So, you volunteered, rather than were called?

That would be a correct assessment, yes. Raven mentioned he was having difficulty finding people willing to be WA immobile, so I offered to assist him and Osiris. I will note that this is likely to be viewed negatively by some, certainly I can understand that view, it seems perhaps to be opportunistic or an attempt to gain undue influence (or both), but there is little I can do to assuage them of that view, beyond offering assurances that that is not the case, despite the little value I imagine will be placed upon such assurances.

I want to be clear that I welcome your participation as a citizen and I'm glad you're here. My concerns are limited to your instant nomination to the Atef, which is a security council that is supposed to be for trusted citizens -- not someone who applied for citizenship four days ago.

You say that you viewed the OFO as just another in a long series of coups d'etat. Do you still have that view of the OFO, and if not, what has changed?

You also mention problems with the oath. I can understand initial problems with the oath, but language related to The Brotherhood of Malice was removed from the oath relatively soon after the OFO's establishment. What remaining concerns did you have with the oath after that language was removed, and what changed your mind?

I still view its beginning as being a coup, yes, and it, therefore, being the result of a coup, but I do not believe that that prevents it from becoming more than a coup. The OFO is now strong and stable, it has proven itself able to be democratic and has, as far as I can tell, only rarely lapsed into the sort of nonsense that occurred in Osiris prior to it.

My concern, after the "allegiance to a foreign power" bit was removed, was with the "its Pharaoh" bit of "I swear my allegiance to the Osiris Fraternal Order, its Pharaoh, and its citizens", it seemed, and continues to seem, overly deferential and promoting of a personal loyalty to the Pharaoh. I continue to dislike that portion of the oath, however it has grown less urgent to me, as a cause for concern.
