Politics Amino

Made by Drinarius and Sahansahiye Iran

A great victory, a few significant mistakes, and a new path forward

On the major update of Thursday, January 17th (or the 18th depending on where you live,) the Sekhmet Legion and 6 allied militaries entered a region called Politics Amino, intent on refounding it. An incredible force of 31 people, including 7 Legionnaires, was amassed for the night.

I originally encountered Politics Amino while searching for a founderless region to mess around in during the second half of the Legion Takeover week. My original plan fell apart due to a delegate transition in St Abbaddon that required the Legion's assistance, but my interest in the region did not wane. I noticed that the delegate Libertarian Socialist Sol had 5 endorsements and about 2200 influence, and his officers had between 1000 and 2000 influence - in other words, the Legion could not destroy the region by itself, but it could with the help of its expanding list of allies. Politics Amino did nothing to provoke us, and it did not necessarily "deserve" to be raided - but it was small enough to be a viable target while still being big enough to potentially cause some backlash and amusement. And we received plenty of both.

The raid went rather smoothly at the beginning. I set a trigger loose enough for the overwhelming majority of the jumpers to make it in on time. No defenders were there to stop us on the first night, and they only did one attrition run throughout the course of the operation. Many high-influence natives left quickly, which was highly beneficial to us. A force of well over 40 pilers quickly accumulated.

The RMB lit up pretty quickly, largely due to conversations with 2 natives:
- Our conversation with Libertarian Socialist Sol was very nice. He informed us of his upcoming surgeries (which we had no idea about beforehand,) and we gave him tips on how to better secure his next region. Everything stayed civil and nobody got heated.
- Our interactions with Largo Elemento were very different. He insulted us repeatedly, calling us "drones," which was very amusing and led to him getting warned by the moderators. As native salt tends to be, Largo Elemento's comments were truly one of the best parts of the operation. He was memorable enough to be the inspiration for the ribbon that we gave to the participants of the op!

Sadly enough, I was an idiot and forgot to archive the RMB before the refound, which led to the permanent loss of many memories for both raiders and natives. :(

As expected, our attempt to destroy an innocent region was not met without resistance. Kuriko quickly drafted a liberation proposal for the region that caused us some significant headaches. Here is a timeline of the later stages of the raid, including how the

Saturday, January 19th
The liberation proposal entered the approvals process. We weren't really sure that it was going to pass, so we didn't think much of it.

Sunday, January 20th
Assuming that the liberation proposal would enter the voting period at noon on Wednesday, I adjusted my plans, eliminating one Border Control officer

Monday, January 21st
A planned WA blocker operation at the major update was cancelled due to technical difficulties for the trigger. It is unclear how much time this would have bought us.

Tuesday, January 22nd
Tuesday was the first full day of a school band trip I was on, giving me long days without access to a computer, 4 roommates (no major update triggering for me,) and an overall slower response time.
The liberation resolution went up to vote at noon EST, a day before I thought it would I knew that the liberation voting period would end on Saturday at noon, and I had to greatly adjust my plans. I eliminated 3 more planned border control officers, planned for 4 delegate transitions later in the week, and replaced several banjection orders with ejection orders.

Wednesday, January 23rd
Scottiesland became delegate after the major update, allowing him to banject his assigned natives at a lower cost.

Thursday, January 24th
Salvarity become delegate at the minor update, allowing him to banject his assigned natives at a lower cost. We knew that he would be unavailable on Friday, so it was absolutely necessary that he did his part then.

I became delegate at the major update, which allowed me to do many things the following morning.

Friday, January 25th
With a remarkable speed, several BC officers (mostly Clis I believe) and I emptied out the region, ejecting most of our pilers. I passworded the region, allowing the BC officers to eject their remaining natives without them being able to return.

Overthinkers became delegate at the minor update, allowing him to eject his remaining natives as well as the troops remaining in the region.
By the afternoon, I was the only nation remaining in the region.

At the major update, a force of 8 people comprising of Regional Officers from the raid and a few other Legionnaires worked together to refound the region. Overthinkers ultimately snatched the refound!

Participating Regional Officers:
Benjabobaria - chief organizer of the raid, delegate for most of it
Overthinkers - represented The West Pacific Armed Forces, was delegate for a time and ultimately got the refound
Scottiesland - represented Hartfelden, was delegate for a time
Salvarity - represented The Empire of Mare Nostrum, was delegate for a time
Clis - represented the Joint Task Force of the Augustin Alliance, helped tremendously with ejecting pilers
Vamperiall - represented Voltarium
Azaelai - represented The Black Hawks
Visionary Union - a Legionnaire
Lukatonia - a Legionnaire
Wymondham - a Legionnaire
Imperium of Josh - a Legionnaire, had to be relieved of his duties due to time constraints

This raid was an amazing tactical victory in the face of extreme time constraints. It showed off the immense prowess of the Legion, in both military and diplomatic strength. There is absolutely no way we could have done this raid in November :p

However, it was not without significant, shameful mistakes on my part. I fell back on a promise to archive the Regional Message Board, and distastefully gloated in the liberation forum thread after the successful refound. These mistakes were terrible, and I will be absolutely sure to not repeat them.

It is worth noting that public opinion in Osiris at the time seems to be firmly against unjustified refounds, so the Sekhmet Legion will not be attacking similar innocent regions in the forseeable future. This raid was fun, but I understand why my fellow Osirans would oppose it, so I will be sure to pick better targets in the future.

I apologize for taking a month to write this report. My Chrome did crash multiple times while writing this, costing me a lot of work and greatly demoralizing me, but I ultimately was just too lazy to regularly save drafts and get this done in a timely manner

Mistakes were made, but this refound really was an amazing testament to how far Legion has come! There's no way we would have been able to plan, execute, and tactically maneuver an operation like this under the time constraints that the liberation put us under just a few months ago, but Benja buckled down and figured it out! I'm absurdly proud of Legion for staying focusing and undiscouraged and for overall representing themselves well on this op. This was a good learning opportunity for some of us and it helped us to see how Osiris really wants to be represented. Ever grateful for learning moments! Good job, you guys!
