Kantrias has always been a region straddling two eras, in our thematic styling - in Old Kantrias, we were a Constitutional Monarchy in a rising steampunk industrial metropolis, with a nobility that was founded on wealth and access to ear of the Crown, than significant rights and prerogatives. Noble titles remained a sought after honoriffic, however, and the culture of Nobility has been retained in the reorganized Kantrias of today, but with some differences. Rather than as citizens of the Kingdom, all Kantrian 'citizens' are members of the Peerage of the Realm, come to the capital city - Kantrias - and specifically the noble enclaves in the Old City.
While still retaining a few of the Steampunk elements of Old Kantrias, the aesthetic theme for Kantrias now is the Renaissance and Early Modern Period, and in terms of hand-to-hand weapons, no weapon is more emblematic of the period than the rapier, that weapon used for duels both real and fictional, for sport and for matters of honor. From the Three Musketeers to the Princess Bride and beyond, duels where both combatants weilded the fine and graceful rapier have become a powerful image in the popular imagination, and building on that, building on our own aesthetic and themes, the Ministry of Culture has launched the Kantrian Dueling Society, to host and proctor duels between the nobles of Kantrias - and should they wish to take part, even foreign dignataries or visitors. It has taken the region by storm, with people ranging from the Queen, to the Crown Prince to members of the Council of Nobles and regular members of the nobility all taking part. With your career wins and career score tracked, all can hope to compete for the top of the KDS Leaderboard, whether from Kantrias or not. The Kantrian Dueling Society also shall be hosting future contests of various sorts, including in the near future Chariot racing.
Featuring a coded-into-the-forums dice roller and only moderately complex rules, the Kantrian Dueling Society is designed for rapier to rapier combat, but allows for the wild and swinging attacks of the Battleaxe for those so inclined, and even the newfangled flintlock pistols for that pistols at dawn experience. New weapons may be added in the near future to expand on the selection already available, increasing the options available for all who wish to prove their prowess on the field of Honor!
