On Convening a Legislature and Additions to the Government

Post by Cormac »

As an addendum to the announcement in the OP, Biyah will also be joining the government as Vizier of Security Affairs. He will be overseeing the monthly citizenship check for nation in the region, as well as handling intelligence and counterintelligence. Security checks for new citizenship applicants will still be handled by forum administration, as they are the ones with the needed access to IP information.

Welcome to the team, Biyah!

I wouldn't say that. We've said all along that we intend to welcome Osirans back to active participation in the community, and that commitment to reunification doesn't just apply to those involved in the recent conflict, but to Osirans throughout the region's history. It's time to bring this region's community, historical and modern, back together. We can thrive together or fall apart.

One of the most positive things about this new governmental system we're in the process of adopting is that it can bring an end to the paranoia, factionalism, and instability of the past. We no longer have to worry that letting people work on projects within their skill sets, things they enjoy doing and are good at doing, will be used as a spring board to the regional Delegacy. We no longer have to worry that a Minister or Speaker today might turn into a Delegate tomorrow, and thus we no longer have to make calculations about how putting X in the Department of Y might impact future plans to run for Delegate and whether X can be trusted to serve as Delegate, when all they may really want to do is serve as Minister of Y. That's why we favor this system. It would make no sense, in the context of a system such as this, to engage in the same kind of exclusionary practices that have historically been a problem in Osiris.

The steps we have recently taken have been to liberate us -- all of us -- from the chains of our exclusionary past. All Osirans are welcome to actively participate in this community, within this new and more stable system. We were serious about that and we remain serious about that.

Biyah served as the head of Security for nearly the entirety of the KRO, so him now being in charge of Security would be viewed as things coming full circle.

Since you decided to add a bunch of flawed rhetoric as well, I might as well respond to that. It is kind of funny that you speak about "the paranoia, factionalism, and instability of the past" as though they were created and perpetuated by how the government was structured. All of those concepts had minimal to do with the structure and more so to do with the people in the region. A structure is just a structure. It's the people that control how to respond. Several of the individuals you have enlisted in leadership positions were not simply contributors of those concepts, but leaders of them, including yourself.

This "we" you speak of that were so worried about people couping is a small group. In fact, most in that small group are now in a leadership role. The OFO community at large has been more accepting than you paint. The community decided to pardon you and four others now with positions. The OFO community decided to vote for Jesus Whale, even when he was being falsely accused of all the things. The OFO community at large was not worried. And now many of those individuals are gone.

I say this because simply changing a structure will only do so much. All of the concepts you speak of won't vanish suddenly from that. Players control that and I look forward to see how you all respond accordingly.

Or maybe it should just be viewed as moving forward, as I don't think anyone viewed you serving as a forum administrator or running for Pharaoh again as coming full circle, despite you having done both of those things during the KRO period. You have certainly contributed in a much more positive way in the OFO than you had during the KRO.

Coming full circle implies we're right back where we started, and I completely reject that thinking. People change and I don't see any reason some should be given a chance and others shouldn't.

Jakker, you said not too long ago that the point around here is to avoid toxicity and move forward.

If you know that already, then you know you were 0/2 in your last post. Make your actions match your words, please, for the betterment of the OFO.

I've learned more about the minds of men on the internet than I have in any book.

I would like to think that there is a difference between criticism and toxicity. I would be critical regarding leadership actions before this whole thing as well. But hey I'll keep my mouth shut and let you all do your thing. Just as least take some of what I was saying to say to heart because I do believe it is important to be mindful of.

I don't think anyone wants you to "keep your mouth shut." I know I don't. If you could express your criticism in a less hostile way and more constructively, though, that would be great.

I don't believe that I approached my criticism in a hostile way at all, but I will keep that in mind. :P
