Rogamark endorses Cormac for Pharaoh

Post by Rogamark »

Now that nominations are over and the list of candidates is set, I have decided to discontinue this campaign and endorse Cormac for Pharaoh. Not that I couldn't do the job, but I think he's still better qualified than myself for the office, and we're in full agreement on what's important during the next executive term anyway. The answers he gave in addition to his platform further persuade me that he has something I've been lacking from the start, a fully developed, complete plan for Osiris. I understand it's a judgment call whether or not a Pharaoh Cormac is 100% compatible with my stated objective of drama reduction, but I see no reason not to give it a try at this point. Please give him your vote in the election. Of course I'll keep serving in the government, should the next Pharaoh want me to. Thank you all, maybe another time ^_^
Spoiler
Hello Osirans,

nobody really expected me running for Pharaoh, and most certainly not after a whole three months in the region. And I had no plans for running until very recently. The last attempt at an election was, without a doubt, the messiest election I've ever seen in my NS career. Rumors on a 'Byzantine conspiracy' scale flying around, candidates going after one another, not to mention this public statement and the ensuing bloodshed, then people voting for RON as a last resort, now the drama keeps going while we're making another attempt at electing a Pharaoh. All of this shortly after the Predator debacle, which brought another generous helping of drama to the region.

Osirans, what are you doing? This is a region with a lot of tradition and history, for better or for worse, with a lot of able and experienced NSers. This is a region with a lot of potential. There is no reason why Osiris couldn't be a consistent powerhouse, a highly active, eminently respectable region... if it wasn't for what I'd like to call the Osiris Twostep: Every time there is an opportunity to bring us forward and get the region going the way it's supposed to, drama ensues. Unfailingly. And the sitting Pharaoh is either taking a head dive right into it, or simply falls inactive, together with half of his cabinet. I would like an opportunity to try and change that.

As I said in the course of the RON discussion, I know I'm rather unqualified in terms of Osiris experience. But this might not be a disadvantage here. I don't have a long history of conspiracies and plots and Osiran soap operas where I was involved. (Actually, the last time I set foot in Osiris, some time ago, I ran for my life after a while.) What I do have, however, is a history of leading a region. Until yesterday I was the President of Spiritus, for a full year until I hit my term limit. During my time in office, Spiritus's military went from 'dead' to 'GP award-winning'. We became more active in the FA department, ultimately delivering two treaties after years of having none. We put out somewhat regular FA updates, some of which I wrote myself, until I was able to find a motivated newcomer to take on some responsibilities, whom I trained to eventually succeed me in the office of MoFA... and who's my successor as President now. Most importantly, the region is just as active as when I took office, but nearly free of drama, which... hasn't always been the case. Before that I served the region as MoFA, before that I was an elected legislator. Before that, I was active in Equilism, holding a number of offices from plain old Senator to Chief Minister.

Yes, I know, Spiritan credentials don't buy a cup of coffee here, but what I'm trying to say: I have experience with regions in a similar state to ours, and a record for actually finding solutions for most of the serious problems. As for RL, I have a lot of time at the moment, since I'm changing jobs. I'm on terminal leave from #1, and #2 doesn't start until June.

Since this is essentially an improvised campaign, I don't have a lot of specific policies to advertise, so I'm hoping for a lot of questions. I could just plagiarize from other current and former candidates and promise what everyone else has been promising, but that's not my style. What you'd get from a Pharaoh Rogamark is solid, active NSing without potentially region-breaking experiments - and I believe that and nothing else is exactly what Osiris needs right now.

Good luck, Rogamark. You're a very strong candidate and I appreciate the wealth of experience you'll be bringing to the office if you're elected.

Thanks, likewise. I could live with losing to you, under the circumstances.

While other people think of better questions, I'll go with the one that was tossed at me a lot:

How can you, a Defender, guarantee the continued ability of the Sekhmet Legion to perform invader operations, and how will you balance that with your ideology and roles in other militaries such as the Spiritus Defense FOrce?

That's a very important question, thank you. Yes, I do believe in the defender core value of self-determination. But I also think invading does have a place in GP, it's specific types of raiding I'm opposing. I've been vocal enough in opposing DEN-style grief raiding, taking a region again and again and again, until the last of the natives has left in frustration. Raiding for a purpose - war as continuation of politics by other means, to be the cliche German for a moment - is quite another thing, and I've even made statements to that effect while sitting as President of Spiritus. I'm not a defender extremist, I just believe helping people that can't help themselves is a worthy and noble cause, if the alternative is them getting beaten up until they quit NS.

Osiris used to utilize its military in the furtherance of Osiran causes, not for harassment. I like to think that's still the case, and we're still falling in the 'gentleman raider' category. Given how many Osirans expressed disdain for the whole Predator business, it seems this philosophy is a majority consensus.

As for my roles in other militaries, that's only the SDF. I'll just refrain from any activity during my time as Pharaoh. Since the Pharaohship comes with the delegacy, active defending - or any active participation in military activity - is out of the question anyway. What's left is the logistics of the Sekhmet Legion, and I see no problems there. I'm not running for office just so I can half-ass my job.

1.) What is your plan for internal development of culture and activity?
2.) Given that you were from Spiritus, and only arrived in Osiris about 3 months ago (give or take), what makes you believe you are familiar enough with the systems to hold the highest office?

Thanks for the questions. My plan for Culture, honestly, consists of finding a good Scribe of Culture for that. I'm sharing the current Pharaoh's disposition of being a GP person, culture is not really my specialty. As for activity, in my experience, there are two key issues. The first is maintaining a large enough body of active citizens. Osiris doesn't seem to have a problem with getting people, not according to the citizenship application thread. What worries me is retention - the number of people registering here, only to disappear after an inactive short while, is far too high, even by sinker standards. The second is activity on part of the government. It's always problematic when there's not enough constant forum activity to give people a reason to come here on a regular basis.
2.) Given that you were from Spiritus, and only arrived in Osiris about 3 months ago (give or take), what makes you believe you are familiar enough with the systems to hold the highest office?
Hm, that's an excellent question. I've been a member of the government for most of my time here, I've been here before... and I'm from Spiritus, but I wasn't exiled to there. And I think an Osiris expert with many years of involvement in Osiran politics is probably not the best thing for the region in the current situation anyway. Though I'll admit I likely would not have made plans for running, had I known somebody like Cormac will stand.
