Episode III: Return of the Stark

Post by Tim Stark »

Introduction

That's right Osiris, I'm back. I've had some time away from the Pharaoh's seat, done some soul-searching, drank some cactus juice, and have decided that I'm geared up and ready for another try at the Pharaoh's seat. A lot has changed since my last term. Regional Officers were instituted, some long-time members left, some new members have joined the community, The Black Riders was passworded, and more. In fact, it seems that the only constant through all of Nationstates these days is that The West Pacific continues to make no sense. However, the time feels right, and the desert wind blows strong. Osiris will become great again.

Okay, I'll admit, the banner isn't accurate. It's not accurate because I don't need to make Osiris great again. I believe Osiris is already great. We're a stable region with a great community, a high endorsement count, and a solid amount of activity for a Game-Created Region. What I do wish to do is make Osiris even greater, because I know we can be greater. My primary goal, if elected, is to always see Osiris improving somehow, and always growing to bigger and better heights. There should not be a "good enough" for us, there should only be a "great, but we can make this even better". How do I plan to do this, you might ask. Well, let's get to it, shall we?

Platform

I'm going to be incredibly cliche and use three major points here. I hope you'll forgive me for that, but after thinking about it, I realized that the only real way I have to organize my thoughts on this is into a few paragraphs. These aren't going to be buzzwords either, in the normal style. These are goals, and they are goals I would hope to accomplish over at least the next three months. Each, in my opinion, represents a key part of my platform. While I have many other things I plan to work on, detailing all of them in one post would be simply too much for me, so I've condensed it to three. As with any time I run for an office, if you wish to know more about a point I raise, or would like for details on a point I may not have brought up, I am happy to reply and give the best answer I possibly can. So, as I was saying, my three points. Here we go.

Integration

This focuses on bringing in new, dedicated, and active citizens from both the Osiris region and the greater NS World. I plan to work tirelessly on broadening connection between the forum and the region, actively promoting the forum through more than just posting it constantly. While that's great and all, I'd like to get to know our active on-site members, and gain more of them. The Regional Message Board, in my mind, is the perfect segway in which you can simply chat with people, grow friendships, and then suggest something on the forum that they might have interest in. I will be actively talking there, striking up conversations, and keeping polls going on the region page to spur discussion that can foster this community feel. Furthermore, I'll be focusing on telegram outreach as well, having either myself or other Hedjeti talk with new people over telegram, learn about them, learn their interests, and work to get them involved in the community by extending the friendly hand of Osiris to them. Afterall, we are called the Osiris Fraternal Order, and I think that there is nothing that can better emphasize that than fostering brotherhood within our region.

To be frank, I want to be one of those GCRs that people go to, and get involved and dedicated in, because they heard it was a cool place to join and a cool community to be in. I want us to be a region that attracts bright-eyed newbies and established players alike, here for the purpose of joining the region to be part of this community, to be part of our quest for even more greatness, and to be involved in all of it. That's my vision, and I paln to achieve it. .

WA Domination

I'll keep this short. I want us to be a major player in the World Assembly, with endorsement counts large enough to swing the vote and timeliness in stacking, for interests of the region. Besides for the obvious thing of constantly working to get more and more endorsements on my Delegate nation, both through constant tarting and extensive outreach to both WA and non-WA nations, I'd like to up the involvement of the community in how we vote on World Assembly resolutions. I plan to have voting threads up ahead of time for both the SC and GA, basically as soon as proposals hit queue or become evident that they're going to hit queue. As I plan to be a Delegate that actively participates in vote-stacking the second a resolution goes to vote, this will help us establish exactly how we want to vote on anything potentially coming up. Furthermore, I will really advertise the fact that nations can join the forum to vote on our WA direction, as I think that such a thing is incredibly appealing to new or returning nations who want a way to feel like they have influence.

Culture

Though I am admittedly from the NS School of Thought that Culture is horrible and overrated, it's probably because I just really hated it the one time I was given a Culture Ministry position in The Rejected Realms. Osiris has a kickass community, and I'd love to continue culturing it up. We've got Osiran of the Week, we've got RPs, we've had a festival. I really want to build on that and work to increase our cultural prominence, whether that's with something like a Steam Group to run regional games through, contests and that kind of stuff, avatar of the month, or any other cool shit that we think of culture wise. I also plan to ensure that our Temple of Isis is well staffed with knowledgable and dedicate people so we can really get this done well! Also there might be some murmurs that I might try to make the Rome theme happen again. I can confirm this is a thing.

Handy Dandy Q&A! Also, here's some pre-made questions for all of you curious folks.

Q: Tim! How do I know you'll be involved in Osiris?! What other stuff takes up time for you?
A: Right, so. My two other big active roles are acting as TRR's Speaker and Spiritus' Founder and Enculturation Minister. In TRR, this basically means I just keep the Assembly tidy and open/close votes. It's not time consuming, and I've basically told people from the second I was elected there that if they don't think I'm good enough I encourage them to challenge me and I will step aside. In Spiritus, I manage the use of our recruitment and also work to involve people on the RMB occasionally. Given that I literally did that all of my last Osiris Pharaoh term and was fine, I think I'll be fine again.

Q: Tim, why should we elect you? You're a Defender and Osiris is invader!
A: Right, mate, just bugger off. I'm the first person in Osiris history since Lyanna Stark to serve two consecutive terms, the second of which was uncontested. I've also done a bunch of other shit in Osiris and have basically stuck around the community whenever I haven't been banned for picking the wrong side of a regime change. The Sekhmet Legion actively raided under me, the region stayed invader under me, and unless you count my fully justified PNG declarations of invaders such as Halcones and Feuer Ritter, I really didn't do much wrong. Please, if I wanted to send Osiris Defender, I already would have.

Q: Okay well I still won't vote for you because you're Defender
A: Oy, go hang out with Cora, he seems more your ilk. I ain't making this an R/D thing and neither should you

Q: Why are you running?
A: Didn't you see the whole bit about the wind and the vision quest and the cactus juice?

Q: I think you're going to coup!
A: Fine, I'll do a little one just for you.

Q: Why?
A: Why not?
In conclusion So, yeah, that's my campaign. I hope you like it, and I hope you'll vote for me. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, prayers, donations, or anything else of the like please post below and I will address it to the best of my ability in a prompt manner. If you don't like my answers, ask for more clarification. Seriously, I don't mind and I want you to be as best informed as possible about what I'm all about.

Thanks,
Tim

I officially endorse Tim Stark for Pharaoh of the Osiris Fraternal Order for what it's worth. We just need to keep an eye on him so he doesn't have us join the FRA :P

It is no coincidence he served more terms on his first go than any Pharaoh of the Osiris Fraternal Order, and I am confident that he will do right by Osiris.

What are your thoughts on the current state of the Sekhmet Legion, and how would you like to alter it?

Man, you're going right for the difficult stuff aren't you Kleo? Okay, so to be frank, I'm not content with the state of the Legion. It hasn't been doing much at all these past few months, and while I get that NSA had other stuff come up, and troop numbers are hard to come buy, it's still rather frustrating. Having a military that has at least some presence is key to both our influence as a region, our morale as a region, and our general foreign affairs clout. I fully believe that integration and cultural efforts will increase the size of our military, by using it as part of the recruitment pitch and tying cultural aspects to it through stuff like "Sekhmet Legion hosted war games" or something of the like, that we could get the region to partake in. Furthermore, I plan to re-do our ranks because we frankly look like every other cookie-cutter military with our current ranks system that seems like it's been lifted straight from DEN. No offense to whoever came up with that, it's just me. I'd love for us to have an Osiris-themed ranks system to go with the name of our military and our general theme, whether that be an Egyptian one or a Roman one.

However, I also recognize that we need to simply get stuff happening. Though my status as a Defender, and my personal beliefs, prevent me from directly engaging in establishing operations, I am confident that I can pick the right person to do the job as Scribe of War and get operations rolling. As a GCR military, we're not really under the same kind of expectations as UCRs that are focused only on R/D, but I'd like to still see us doing some sort of operation at least once a month. Whether that's a short tag run to stretch the feet, or even just a small raid with some support from our friends, I want us doing stuff. My vision for the Sekhmet Legion has always been of it being its own military force rather than a feeder force or some UCR's piler force, and I'd like to continue working to see that vision.

Sounds promising. I recall that the Sekhmet has really blossomed the last time you were Pharaoh, so i have no doubts this shall be the case once more. As well as that the rest of Osiris will benefit from your leadership. Good luck in the elections o7
