When I agreed to serve as a Judge, to try and plug the vacancies in the Court, I was not expecting to have to do much - it's decidedly unwise for a Court to be proactive which is my general modus operandi after all. Given my history, my various awards and so forth, it was considered to be a safe appointment for me - and to give the Pharaoh and Hedjet peace of mind that I wouldn't tolerate anyone attempting to pull shenanigans with the Court to cause trouble. Yet I ended up having to handle the trials of not just one historical figure in Osiris, but a second popular figure. Both of them were charged with rather serious crimes and in complete contrast to the Kemetic Republic of Osiris, and my refusal to accept any idiocy when conducting trials, they went off without a hitch.Two guilty pleas, two guilty verdicts, and two reasonable sentences. Job done. Conversely, I would remind you that those are the first Guilty Verdicts actually rendered by an Osiran Court in the entirety of Osiris' existence. In addition, I would note that unlike previous trials conducted by this court - Osiris vs. Bob Moran, or the sham that was Osiris vs. Tim Stark, or the failure that was Osiris vs. Zaolat in the past, these trials actually concluded in a reasonable time-frame.
That said, it's just another thing in a very long list of things I've managed to do for this region. However, like everything, it all comes to an end. Even during my self imposed exile from Osiris during the middle of last year, I was in contact with various people - not just from Osiris but from long standing allies keeping a watchful eye over Osiris' security, and I've maintained that eye regardless of what roles I've held elsewhere.
We all grow up, and in many ways everything I've achieved outside of Osiris was made possible by Osiris. Like I've said of Cormac, "You came of age during the fires of war" in this region, just like I did. The sense of nostalgia strikes me hard in this region as it changes. Three years ago, I was sitting in a channel of the Pharaoh of Osiris, Lyanna Stark. Shortly after I received my first appointment to the cabinet, and from that time I was absent from cabinet for all of a month between then and May 2014.
Part of me still wonders how I managed to go from being a diplomat of Osiris, representing the Kemetic Republic to the FRA Member-state, The United Federation to being the longest serving Minister of Foreign Affairs in Osiris, or First Elected Pharaoh of the Osiris Fraternal Order.
Osiris was a lot of firsts for me. I've formed some friendships, I've lost some friendships. I've fought two coups, and ended up supporting the very coup which saw the Osiris Fraternal Order come into being. I learned that the Sepatarchy - and that included myself - tended not to read anything Asta submitted and just agreed because it was her, and she taught us a lesson the hard way. I think fondly of a time long gone where I could sit in #osiris as a nameless citizen and just watch the dynamic in the channel, and I miss that. I don't miss the conflicts of the civil war, or the petty back room fights, the political mudslinging or the hell that was this region as the Kemetic Republic died an agonising death but I do miss the late night Skype calls, the fun and dastardly plots and the sense of a challenge I had coupled with the drive and desire to succeed and impress.
I feel prone to nostalgia when I think of everything I've experienced in this region; even as most of the people I used to spend time with are long gone and some of the friendships I had with people here have grown distant as I've drifted further and further away from the epicentre of regional events.
My fire is gone. I see a community where a relic of the Kemetic Republic like myself has no place. My purpose in this region, my destiny was to secure its second chance and recognition of that second chance from the political forces of the Feeders. Even if I achieve nothing else in NationStates, I can say with surety that all my work for that was worth it, and I was able to bring that to fruition.
Thank you for everything Osiris; and with this, I formally retire as Chief Elder of the Pschent as well as a member of its Court. It has been my pleasure to serve all these years. Perhaps one day, I'll rediscover that fire I once held so tightly.
