Recognising an unsung hero.

Post by Lord Ravenclaw »

On the night that the Osiris Fraternal Order was founded, I was woken up by axis_of_evil (Joshua Bluteisen) via Steam messaging me to get me up. I was also alerted by a few other people, like in previous "coups" of Osiris. And I came on in a towering temper, sleepy but incensed. I felt betrayed that this had happened and utterly horrified.. I was fully ready to organise a resistance and probably would have. But Venico asked that I hear him out. And I listened and I decided that he had the right of it. So he got my support and everything that entailed.

The OFO was founded to give Osiris a fresh-start. To try and restore a battered and fractured community. I can't say it has always been successful, we've had some pretty tought times. But the community is stronger than what we had with the KRO, I think there is a good deal more trust amongst our various people. I'm not saying we're perfect, we really aren't, but the difference between that and becoming better is acknowledgement of our faults and a unified attempt to sort them.

The OFO will stand as long as it has a community dedicated to it, and yes the NES-Cormac fight has been horrific for both sides, two people who have done a lot for this region fighting will never have a good effect.

I think that in many ways we have overlooked an unsung hero in Osiris. Someone who has kept the peace many times between our government and people. Someone who has to make difficult decisions at times, including whether to remove me from the admin team when I finally lost the plot in May.

Who has managed to keep a distance between the various factions and done a role that I know for a fact, I could not do. Osiris owes him a great deal of gratitude for everything he has done for us.

That person, is Koth.

There are times in this region that stress has threatened to overwhelm us, and I am no different to that. You will have all heard in September when I was PNG by Cormac, that it was mentioned I was removed from the Administrative Team for "admin abuse". The reality sounds much less fanciful. Stress got to me, and after eighteen months of being involved in everything stress was mounting. What I done was close an active roleplay, Enemy at the Gates, archive its section and bump a House Application thread to the top of the forum twice to try and keep it up against another. Mild things in normal context but as I was already politically charged, in need of a rest it became dangerous to keep me around as I lost my divide between politics and administration, hence why I left and I freely admit that I needed that rest and needed to be forcibly stepped down in order to get it. It's not something I'm proud of, but I've been told by several people it's understandable.

That is far from exceptional circumstances, but I am one person. We've seen Cormac get burnt out. Zaolat, and even Venico. Even Severisen and Joshua were tired at the end of their terms, regardless of how the term went.

Whilst in my term Venico was the primary mediator, Koth stayed firmly in the neutral ground working to build a stronger Osiris. When I awarded him the Nomarchy of Kadesh in January I had no idea of exactly how much work he would do behind the scenes from that point to handle frayed nerves. It is a style different to the pacifying moves I make to deal with people and a lot more direct, it often works better than what I, and several others do to keep the peace.

To that extent, I think that if there is anyone in this region who should be honoured by Osiris for their contributions, it is Koth. I do wonder, without him, would the OFO have even been possible?

I believe this war, therefore, should not be a matter of raiding and defending. It's a matter of moral decency. Don't wear tights. Don't live in forests. Don't dress up and roleplay as animals. It's wrong, and the LKE is taking the initiative to exterminate this horrible organization.

You flatter me too much, Raven. Seriously, I'm fucking blushing over here :P

I don't need to be formally recognized for my service to the region more than I already have been, despite how much I appreciate this from you. It means a lot to me that my side of the OFO story isn't lost to history, but I have always said that there was so much more I could have done for the OFO in its infancy. I was in a very weird place in real life when the coup happened, it ate up a lot of my time and my grades were in the toilet. I was, and always have been and most likely always will be, lazy. Beyond the calculations and military work I did for plotting the overthrow of the Empire, when the OFO was finally in place I sorta shut down. I never contributed nearly as much to the side of the OFO everyone saw...the forum, the government, anything of the sort. Rather, my place was behind the scenes making sure nobody killed each other. That was fine enough for me...but I'm no hero. I won't deny that obviously the OFO would not have been created without me, but I don't want anyone to think that I was anything more than I was...the peacekeeper, the third man.

Cormac and Venico, and especially those who helped stablize the region afterwards such as Raven himself and Trieze, are the real heroes, the ones who deserve the fame. I'd be happy to stay with you all as your silent guardian, root admin, and Phantom Pharaoh Emeritus.

I'm going to state my opinion of commending this as a "no', though I sincerely applaud Koth's work here.

Why? Because Koth has always done the right thing, and doing the right thing here needs to be treated as an expectation.

That's...actually a really good way of putting it. Being recognized formally in this region should be reserved for going far beyond the call of duty, accomplishing big things and helping the OFO get recognized by the world as a respectable establishment. I've just always been a good soldier...nothing more to be said :)

That is because the Deshret does not have the legal means to give a formal commendation. The Honours Act only mentions Pharaonic Honours.
