Opening Address of Pharaoh Tim Montresor-StarkJanuary 4th, 2015
“Go back?" he thought. "No good at all! Go sideways? Impossible! Go forward? Only thing to do! On we go!" So up he got, and trotted along with his little sword held in front of him and one hand feeling the wall, and his heart all of a patter and a pitter.”
-J.R.R Tolkien, The Hobbit
When Bilbo Baggins was lost in the caves, having gotten separated from Thorin and Company upon their escape from Goblin-Town, he made that following decision. If he turned back, all it could lead to would be enraged goblins, and the tunnel that he was stuck in meant that there was nowhere to go on either side. Therefore, he chose to go forward, a decision that eventually proved fruitful in both his attainment of the One Ring and his escape from the Goblin Tunnels of the Misty Mountains. Much like Master Baggins went forward, I wish to see Osiris go forward and away from the actions have have plagued our past with controversy and strife. Let us instead focus on what we find precious; our community and our identity, and our One Ring.
Right, now that I've finished that allusion to a piece of Tolkien literature, I can safely say that you should expect plenty more of those throughout the term. To spice it up, I'll also occasionally quote Roman Politicians. It'll be a good time, I promise.
I'll be honest, I did not expect to win this election even a bit. I was hoping for a few votes, and maybe a few serious questions on my platform to make me feel like people cared. I am, therefore, beyond thankful to everyone who voted for me, everyone who asked me questions, and everyone who even considered me as something more than a joke candidate. This result is more than anything I could have hoped for, and I only hope that I won't disappoint your expectations for me as Pharaoh. To those who supported other candidates, for whatever reason, I hope that I may be able to alleviate your concerns and prove that I can be an effective Pharaoh for everyone, not just for those who chose to support me. Too long has this region been polarized between various factions, attempting to influence the Executive Decisions one way or another. When in Osiris, I believe in putting aside all our individual labels. Invaders, Imperialists, Defenders, Independents, independents, or Neutrals, it doesn't matter. Here, we are all Osirans. I wish for my term to be one defined by the community working to better Osiris, rather than the agenda of whichever faction they might claim allegiance to. Too long have we been defined by strife and schism, it's time for us to be defined by our unity and our progress. Just today, we've had this strife I speak of. I implore all Osirans, however, to stop sniping at each other, stop throwing snide remarks at each other, and work together for the progress of our great region.
The Osiris agenda, in my eyes, is centered around the rebuilding of our community, bringing activity back to Osiris, and repairing our image abroad. Too many coups, and too many revolutions, have depleted our community time and time again. Where other regions have had the opportunity to establish long-time members, previous situations have caused the departures of many our long-time members, whether forcefully or not. My focus now will be on building up a community feel, bringing in newly refounded individuals, and cultivating a unique, inviting, and progressive community for our region. I believe that, with what we have here, this is more than possible, and we will see Osiris grow to bigger and better heights than ever before. Through increased efforts to integrate new nations, as well as making our image and foreign affairs be that of a more inclusive and open-minded region, Osiris can become the model Game-Created Region, with something for everybody. I will, therefore, be making increased efforts to add aspects to our community that have been neglected in the past, such as the World Assembly and Roleplay. Though most of us Gameplayers might not have much interests in those areas, I wish to see Osiris catering to all spectrums of Nationstates, so that there may be avenues for involvement regardless of what a potential citizen might be interested in. Beyond that, I wish to continue building both my endorsement count and that of the Atef, so that we may establish both a significant security buffer and stronger World Assembly presence with the Delegate Vote. With that, the more attractive Osiris looks, the more people will want to join it, and so our continued success would simply lead to more success.
This idealistic view, of course, cannot be without safeguards. The security of Osiris will be a priority of mine, whether that's security of our community's sovereignty or our region's sovereignty. Osiris, as we all know, has always had influences pulling it one way or another. Whether that be the tug of Empire's strings, faction of subversive defenders, or the demands of the imperialists, these occurrences have been ever-present. I'll be blunt and say that I would heavily advise outside factions to refrain from trying to control Osiris, and her progress. Though I certainly won't be moving for purges, conspiracies to subvert the sovereignty of Osiris will be dealt with swiftly and clinically. I would just advise any factions, whether on my side of the spectrum or not, to lay off. Osiris is not the plaything of everyone else, and I certainly will not tolerate outsiders trying to make it their plaything. Allow the region to heal, allow for it to progress, and don't join unless you want to be part of our community and help us on our way to prosperity.
To effectively see my vision through, I have appointed an initial Hedjet that I think will be more than satisfactory, as well as two new Atef members. While there are still a few Hedjet spots empty, and some more Atef spots I intend to fill, I will fill those in due time when I find the candidates that I think are best for each position. However, here is my current announced list of appointments for the Hedjet, as well as for the Atef. I believe that with this Hedjet, I will be able to do the most benefit in the most areas for our region.
