Cerberus, Guardian of the Underworld

Post by Ark »

Hey there, Osiris! We've got a lot to talk about.

I want to start my time as Pharaoh by getting everyone on the same page about how the foreseeable future of Osiris will look. But first, I want to say thank you. Thank you to our residents and citizens for welcoming me into the Pharaoh role with so much support. Thank you to the Sekhmet Legionnaires for your service in the delegate transition. A HUGE thanks to our allies from the Brotherhood of Malice, the Black Hawks, and the Communist Bloc for their incredible show of piler support, which pushed me to 300 endorsements at the time of me writing this post. Lastly, but certainly not least, thank you to Hazel for your trust and confidence in naming me heir apparent.

Now, let's do some housekeeping. The following Line of Succession is based on the current endorsement lineup of the guardians, and may be subject to change down the line, but I am happy with it for the time being.

Line of Succession:

Tethys
Draco
Cretanja
Resentine

Hasal-Pharaoh Salem is also in the process of being appointed to the Council of Guardians, in which case he will be added to the line of succession after Res.

Appointments:

Only really one important appointment to note at this time. Hasal-Pharaoh Malphe has generously accepted the position of Foreign Affairs Vizier, and I have full confidence in her ability to do that job.

This next section is going to be fairly long. I will be going through each department of the Osiris Fraternal Order and breaking down my governing philosophy for them, and how I would like to see them grow. The way I will be going about this is by assigning each department a theme. This theme is a simple message that represents the overarching purpose or function of that department, and I will go into more detail about how those departments will be following that theme, and how I will be helping them do so. Let's get into it.

The Sekhmet Legion: Growth

Under Hazel's reign and Addison's command, the Legion has built up a solid base of membership and a good momentum. My primary focus starting out will be continuing this momentum and helping the Legion become a larger, stronger organization. On a technical level, this means getting more active updaters and pilers, as well as continuing to support the command structure. I believe that our Moshir and officers have this vision well in hand, and I will be providing them with whatever assistance I can to help them with it. However, my personal contribution will be more in the abstract. The Legion has, in recent years, been more or less completely separate from Osiris as a region. I would like to change this. Osiris is a Raider region, and I want us to lean into that identity, like a sports team with Osiris being the fanbase. Expect to see the Sekhmet Legion featuring more prominently in cultural activities, celebrations, and publications. I have some plans for the legion in the near-term, but I will have more on that in a separate post when I am ready to talk about it.

Foreign Affairs: Allyship

Foreign Affairs has been my bread and butter for almost the entire time I have been a player of NationStates. That said, I have a lot more to focus on now, so I will be taking a very simple and straightforward direction with Osiran diplomacy going forward. Under Hasal-Pharaoh Malphe, Osiris' foreign policy focused heavily on outreach. This consisted of making inroads with various regions with the goal of building a relationship that would eventually lead to the signing of a treaty. This was the right decision at the time, and I do believe that Osiris has benefitted from it in a lasting way. That said, my intention is to pivot from seeking new allies, to strengthening our ties to regions that we already share productive working relationships with. This does not mean a complete halt to outreach, just that existing allies will take priority. Regions like BoM, TBH, and TCB have demonstrated their commitment to Osiris, and it is important that Osiris justifies that commitment by being the best ally that we can be. There are also regions that we have informal ties to that I would like to see us more actively explore cooperation with, up to and including signing a treaty.

Community Affairs: Consistency

Functionally, I do not believe that CA needs much from me in the way of oversight. Our Community folks are very good at their jobs. I intend to act primarily as support for this department, providing it with whatever tools or resources it needs to seek out and fulfill its own visions for the community. I feel that CA works best when it has the freedom to be fun, inventive, and weird, and I have full confidence in Cretanja to lead that effort.

Gameside Affairs: Outreach

In a similar vein to Community Affairs, I do not believe that I need to be too directly involved in managing Gameside Affairs. Tethys has been steadfast in their leadership of this department, and I am very happy to have them in the role. That said, I do want to put some time into helping grow the OFO's gameside presence. This can sometimes be an uphill battle, as Osiris is a Sinker region, but I would very much like to see it grow a dedicated gameside community. Some of our best and brightest players started out as gameside natives, and I know that there are more out there for us to reach.

World Assembly Affairs: Building Regional Interest

BB has been holding WA Affairs down almost single-handedly for a while now, and I am very proud of her. That said, Osiris has historically had fairly minimal citizen interest in the WA, and I would be interested in seeing that change. While WA affairs is not something I feel needs my direct focus right now, it is a long-term plan of mine to promote more discussion, education, and interest for this area of interregional politics.

Council of Scribes & Priests: Legal Review

Under Hazel, the council of scribes saw a decent amount of activity in the form of legislation intended to standardize and clean up the language used in our laws. This was a largely successful effort, and I would like to work with both the Scribes and the Priests (our judicial branch) to continue auditing the Osiris legal system for areas that could use some improvement.

That's about it for the moment, Osirans. I will have more to discuss in the coming weeks, including changes to the Legion, the Guardian lineup, new initiatives, and a round of awards to be given out to people whose contributions more than warrant official recognition. Also, if anyone has any questions or projects/ideas that they would like to work on with the sponsorship of the OFO, please do not hesitate to send me a DM. Once again, my heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who assisted in our delegacy transition. Osiris has a bright future because of all of you.
