New Year, New Flag: 2020 Osiris Flag Contest!

Hello, Citizens of Osiris! In honor of Reformation Day, Osiris is holding a contest for a new flag. We are very thankful to Cormac for our current flag, which he designed. We feel that part of the spirit of Reformation is our rebirth as a region and our commitment to honoring the past, while moving toward the future. That said, here is everything you need to know about this contest:

• The Submission Period will begin effective immediately and will be closed on December 27th.

• There will be a voting period from December 28th to December 30th. The Flag will be officially announced and adopted on January 1st, 2020.

• Your flag should be submitted in this thread.

• Submissions of flags that are obscene, memes, or not rectangles will not be considered.

• The Flag should feature Egyptian imagery, keeping our region’s historical ancient egyptian theme in mind.

• We ask that each person submit a maximum of one flag.

Here’s my personal submission, hopefully it inspires other people to give it a try! This is an updated/renovated version of one of the old flags of the Khemetic Republic. I felt like this flag celebrates a good part of our history but also represents a bright future that we will make all on our own.

I'm not that good at art. :> We've used the Eye of Horus for so long in a region based on Osiris, I thought I would try to use some representation of the god Osiris for this. The obvious choice would probably have been to use a flail and crook, but I went with a djed column instead. The djed represents stability and permanence. In mythology, a tree encasing the body of Osiris was used by royals as a pillar. The djed is supposed to symbolize Osiris' backbone and the strength of that pillar. Behind the djed is the symbol for Ka, which is something adjacent to a soul. Egyptians believed that humans were made up of a few things, but Ka was the one that was able to pass to the Land of the Two Fields when you died. It was the part of you that would live on and go someplace new after death. These seem like good representations of our region to me. Strong and stable and permanent and a little dead, but in egyptian heaven!

I think that if I messed with it any more I would just start to ruin it (or ruin it more, depending on your opinion of it) or go insane (or more insane, etcetera).
