Realistic RP is fun. In the one other region I RPed in when I first joined NS, we went back and did a "lore roleplay" of how the region came to be. It wasn't exactly fantasy with magic and stuff, but it was as close as we could get while staying canon.

I also want to say that I'm not a tryhard RPer. I respect those that enjoy writing a lot and really get into detail with their RPs. I am not super experienced with roleplay, so I am just letting you know what to expect of me. :p

My favourite part of RP is character creation (as you would tell immediately from my factbooks), it is pretty much an addiction. I've got more than 50 D&D, Rogue Trader etc characters I'll probably never get round to actually using, but which I made just because I had the idea.
I once accidentally created 40-odd Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine Chapters, complete with colour schemes and iconography, in an afternoon. Accidentally.
(I was uploading the colour scheme I came up with in a couple of minutes for a 45-minute-speed-painting only-5-random-paints competition I'd entered (and won, since I was able to do a quartered yellow and white colour scheme complete with badge, yes I damn well am bragging about that) and I just kept going, so by the time I realised I should stop for tea I had several dozen new Space Marine chapters designed.

Long story short, if you ever decide to go with a single character or small group RP, I'll be able to provide several character concepts almost instantly for almost any setting.

Well here are couple Ideas imma throw out:
- Armies could be painted in a standardized scale, I recon the Junior General Scale would be good for us. (And I already use it :p)
- Fantasy could be included, but not in the form of magic. Stuff like religion, races, that kinda stuff could be fantastical, but its all set in a modern magicless setting.

magic goes a little far but we could have a separate fantasy and magic RP, but for the current one we should keep the realism and will it be modern present or future or its own time

Looks at date Well this could use a bump.

I've been doing a lot of thinking about this, and..... at the end of the day, I'm sort of inclined to agree with Bd here.
The best way to ensure we can all get relatively what we want out of this is to divide the RP section.
These divides would be less along the lines of the type of RP(like how it is right now) but more to the theme, so we have a section for Realistic/Semi-Modern RP, one for Fantasy, one for Science Fiction/Science Fantasy, plus or minus an OOC section(Rules, Guides, General Advice/Discussion).
All of them will be structured relatively similar but are obviously for the different RP types.
I don't like chopping up the player base, but, I think long term it gives people more choice in what exactly they would like to participate in, so if someone wants to just do a Modern RP they can do that, or if a player wants to do Magic and SciFi but they don't want to touch Realistic at all, etc etc.

I don't think it's solidly the best solution. I'm not a big fan of dividing the playerbase into subsections because I think it creates cliques and reduces interactivity, but it is certainly the tried and tested solution. It doesn't always work out, but when it has it usually gets an active and involved RP community. Obviously this kind of reorganization can't really be done without admin approval, since it does require the creation of new Subforums and for them to probably move threads around and archive old threads no longer in use. But, here's how I think and RP section under this concept should/would be structured.

Rather than name a specific one canon, they all exist as canon sort of chopped up in their own universes, with the potential to add specific areas for non-canon events/interactions(like, let's say for MT RP we want to do an Alien invasion, or for Fantasy we want to do an End-Times event, but we don't want to fuck up the current RP or something like that)

I dunno how you guys want to decide on a final version, by like some sort of Ranked choice vote or something like it, but this is what I had in my head(and in my drafts as I anxiously picked over it for a month). Feel free to pick apart at will!

We are not active enough to really even have one scene as no one is really doing anything there it seems, you guys just have fun with your RP stuff, I was interested in it but clearly I'm not going to be able to enjoy it right now

To transfer and expand upon my response to Res on discord:

Okay, I like the idea of the structure presented in general. I'm pretty convinced that it won't see all that much use given the responses to this, but hey, having a good framework in place is always step one for actually getting these things going. As for having rules sections, that's all very well and good, but we should probably agree on who is actually writing those rules and how they're going to work.

A question I have is about the map... Is the official map going to be relevant to the RP subsections and updated as such? If so, there obviously is an issue with three diverging canons. I suppose we could use the official map for the modern tech mainline nations RP thing and then the fantasy and scifi ones kinda do their own thing?

I echo your concerns with dividing the playerbase, but I think those three categories provide for pretty much all we need. Probably best not to make more categories or the problems will be compounded heavily. It's certainly possible for most people's RP related desires to be covered by those three sections anyway, so a demand for more might not even come up.
