[OOC]Expectations from RP
Hey guys, Res here.
I think there's an important discussion that we need to have before we really start kicking things off in RP.
I want to gauge where our expectations are, see where we all sit in regards to what we want Osiris RP to be.
I've talked to some of you a bit, others not so much, but I think we could use a thread here to discuss what exactly we want in theme, quality of writing, etc etc.
I'll be blunt with some of my expectations: I do want there to be some kind of Realistic/semi-modern RP World.
That doesn't mean I'm outright opposed to any sort of Fantasy World with magic and whatnot, and not that I can't rework all of that into a world like that, that's just admittedly what I'd been planning on since that's what I have the most work with.
Obviously, I'd like to consider this a *very* open discussion thread, I don't really want any ideas just outright shut down, if we can.
I think we all probably have some interesting ideas on what we want to work with, and I'd like to see what we can do to bring as many of them together.
Like, a realistic RP world with lots of high-tech stuff doesn't necessarily have to exclude magic and wizards and such.
So yea, let's talk,
Res

Re: [OOC]Expectations from RP
My nation is extremely deep into Science Fantasy, but isn't designed for RP involving the whole nation. The main RP idea for my nation is in individual or small groups of my citizens hiring themselves out as mercenaries, bodyguards, combat tutors, assassins etc. Sure, they still have the advantages of teleportation fields, enhanced physical and mental abilities, and sentient weapons with reality-warping abilities (for further information check my factbooks) but just a couple of them, and maybe even just ones with lesser abilities like "gains increased strength and speed while singing", shouldn't be too disruptive.
EDIT: Though the nation of Altinsane currently has 169 of my nation's finest currently serving as royal guards, which might be somewhat overpowered... But then, I doubt whatever RP you are planning will involve attempts on our Pharaoh's life, so they shouldn't be a major issue.

Re: [OOC]Expectations from RP
I like realistic RP too. It's important to be able to build a realistic (enough) of a character and have them travel around in the adventure. I particularly like stories that either involve catastrophe, like if the region was under anarchy, or something like a crime story. I like to write what my characters do and where they go, none of that predetermined stuff like, "[Character] is traveling through a cave, what do they do?" I mean full on writing out a story on my own that fits the overarching story prompt.
Edit: I'm personally not very big on the "national" RP. It really depends, but for the most part, I don't care too much for it. I don't see much worth of someone saying something like, "Look at my nation, we have a huge military, it will wipe you out! Ain't my nation so much cooler than yours?!" It doesn't mean anything to me how detailed someone makes their nation to me, I won't ever be impressed that some chucklehead wrote that their military has a high budget or whatever. I will be impressed if this person can participate in an engaging story though with their characters.

Agreed, that's what turned me off the NS forum RPs.Kawaii wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 5:54 amI don't see much worth of someone saying something like, "Look at my nation, we have a huge military, it will wipe you out! Re: [OOC]Expectations from RP
Yea, I can dig that. I'm not usually a fan of NS stats sort of for that reason, at least in Forum RPs. Honestly, a lot of my previous work in TSP(just for example) ended up as sort of a blend of things, where yes, I'd be doing the decisions and actions of my government, but portraying it through the lens of characters, like my Prime Minister sitting down with his cabinet ministers to discuss a recent trade deal, or a Naval Commander in his CIC, wondering if the submarine stalking his fleet is just trying to spook him or preparing an attack.Kawaii wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 5:54 am Edit: I'm personally not very big on the "national" RP. I think finding the blend between those helps make people who are used to more character specific RPs interact on a larger scale, and brings people who are used to just acting as a nation bring more detail, justifications, and specifics into their work, fleshing out a nation with characters and actors in their governments and nations. Though admittedly I think that's sort of what you're aiming at with that last sentence. And I'll fully admit I'm not always the best writer either and could use the help with that sort of stuff.

That's not me saying that I don't think there's room for (specifically) Character RPs. I honestly would like to try something like that since it's been out of my ability/reach for a while(I haven't been anywhere it's been a part of the RP culture). I think there are ways to include Character RPers like you with folks who are interested in the more Grand Strategy aspects of Nation RP. Not that it works all the time either. Sometimes people are stubborn, sometimes folks are just interested in being "BIGGEST STRONGEST NATION EVAH XD XD". Back in TSP, we usually just ended up ignoring those folks(since we couldn't just boot them out of RP overall cuz we just didn't have that kind of authority) but I do get the feeling it'll be different here. Either with some overarching authority to try and keep RP from getting *that bad* or just with a more communicative community that will either teach or root out those sorts of RPers.

Re: [OOC]Expectations from RP
Most of what I've done over the past few years has been nation based, but utilizing IRL nations. I've never done anything involving fantasy, and so am not 100% on how that would play out in a more realistic world. And while I'm not the biggest into using characters, it isn't something that is foreign to me, so if we end up going that route it'll be doable.
Though, that all being said, whatever direction we go in will be interesting and hopefully will be the start of a new, and effective means of fun and also a way to gain the interest of potential new citizens

Re: [OOC]Expectations from RP
Hello everyone, its Ani, I have been a member of Osiris for a while and have some intrest in this.
I was hoping we could have some magic in the world, Not anything god modding, but some kind of magic, I want it for ascetic, and my Persona has magical aspects to him, at best as far as war goes, small amounts of people would be powerful, to the level of strongest you could get in skyrim (thats the best example I can think of), I dont plan to make it a mid evil thing, it would be a technological place mixed with magic, maybe having people who have stronger magical abilities, though, extremely rare, along with crystals that are full of magical energy, which has lead to my area being enriched with magic and some of the people gaining magical ability

Re: [OOC]Expectations from RP
I'd really prefer that we kept it within the boundaries of reason and realism. It's a far more consistent and level playing field for those involved, as the rules of whatever magic anyone will ever want to introduce to an RP have to be extremely well defined and balanced. And that just... never actually happens.

Re: [OOC]Expectations from RP
I mean, its up to the game master for what the rules *are* of magic, so they can make them well defined, an say what is or is not allowed an such, in this case, the magic that would be here would basically be compared to real stuff, such as grenades, rockets, bullets, etc, like, tldr, me and the other leaders would probably be the only ones that can even use straight up magic, which's power would still be compared to actual weapons, and have limits for its use, while everyone else would just have tools that used magic rather then just science, like, shooting bullets made from magic, maybe they have better accuracy, but over all do less dammage, or otherwise, basicaly being the same as regular things, just looking like magic an such as cosmetic touch, where at most, the most magical things being floating buildings
