Adytus for Chief!

Post by Adytus »

Adytus for Chief Vizier! Hi.

Some of you may already know me from other regions, or my gallivanting here in Osiris, but for those of you that don’t - I am Adytus, formally the Anarchic Republic of Adytus – but do not worry, I am not a real anarchist! In fact, I am entirely the opposite, but I do enjoy role-playing with my nation, writing stories for it, and exploring that aspect of the game. It is where I got my start in this universe back in April of this year. I spent the majority of my time collecting endorsements, and writing for my nation, and back then that was all I really knew how to do; however, I like to think I have come a long way since then, and certainly with a ton of help, particularly from people like Cormac, and Yuno, as well as numerous others. I would probably still be collecting endorsements, and writing for my nation if it was not for them. Yuno, being the Minister Steward in Lazarus, actually recruited me to the forums for the first time, where I started to learn how this world works, and where I was going to stand within it. After getting my feet on the ground in Lazarus, and realizing that democracy in this game is far from perfect, I happened upon something Cormac wrote on the NationStates forum that I thought described my circumstance perfectly, and felt compelled to messaged him about, telling him just how right I thought he was. He was polite, and certainly someone I thought was doing a great job at this game, even if others were vocal about their disagreements, and with my contact with him. “I do not want to play my game with your old grudges,” is a common response I would give when people came poking me about what is right or wrong. This happened on a number of occasions, whether it was Cormac or Evil Wolf.

From there, I developed an interest in the World Assembly. So far, I have repealed a liberation resolution, and I am very proud of this; moreover, I have submitted a number of proposals already, and worked along side people to draft their own. I made an attempt to repeal and replace SC # 1 as well, but this attempt was met with misfortune. I am also working on a number of GA proposals. There was one attempt already to submit a proposal to the GA, but – to be frank, I had no idea what I was doing, and perhaps I still may get lost in the piles of GA paperwork. However, I am not deterred! When I was working on my first proposal, Cormac was kind enough to assist me, voting in favor of the proposal when it came to vote, even though my proposal and his conflicted at some point due to timing. He was willing to work with me to help achieve our goals, and I admire that quality in people. I was not greeted with silent contempt that seems to be all too common on this game, but a polite message appealing to me to do the right thing. It was this enterprise that sealed my respect for Cormac, and my interest in Osiris. Shortly after, I applied for citizenship, and here I am! Happy to be here more and more every day since I joined.

Before I go any further, I would like to post my conflict of interest disclosure, and leave some notes. Transparence is important to me, and I made this apparent to the Rejected Realms when I ran for officer there. I will always let people know what is going on, and, more importantly, what I have going. I am only involved in four regions; however, I due maintain citizenship in the Pacific Order due to my ambassador responsibilities. They do not let you see much otherwise, which makes it five regions. The other regions and my positions in them are as followed:
  • Lazarus – this was the region where I started, politically, thanks to my friend Yuno. I am currently in the cabinet heading World Assembly affairs for the region, and an active member of the legislator, where I fight for equal rights for raider players to build a more inclusive environment. It is a democracy, where people of all backgrounds should be welcomed.
  • The Rejected Realms – I was elected an Officer of Culture there not to long ago. The region is a bit dead, so the office does not require much. I have encouraged the region to move to discord, and have started several polls. There is also an interesting discussion going on about creating an Officer of Terror to encourage people to the forum.
  • Balder – I believe this was the second region I joined; however, I have not accomplished much there. I am only a citizen, and have taken part in the civic offices, where I was tasked with greeting new citizens.
  • Osiris – I have had a lot of fun here, and this is my favorite place hands down. When I became a citizen because of my respect Cormac, I wanted to get involved. Lucky, I was asked by Biyah to serve as Sub-Vizier of World Assembly affairs. I have written a couple of announcements for the General Assembly, and the Security Council since then to let the international community know how the Pharaoh and we vote, as well as the routine proposal posting. During the state of emergency, I was promoted to a full Vizier “Without Portfolio,” which I thought was pretty funny, but I still handle world assembly affairs. Since taken office, I have taken part in government discussions, and have tried my best to give helpful advise where I can, contributing to what I can.

There are a couple of core ideas I would like to press within the government that I think could have a serious impact on the strength of Osiris, our activity, and how we look at ourselves as a community. The best way to describe my plans is bigger and better everything, but here are the main objectives if elected.
  • Foreign Affairs – This department needs some love, and I am single. I would like to aggressively look for partners all across NationStates, building strong bonds and reaffirming current treaties so that we may more effectively tackle issues and threats that may arise. I know most of the treaties have been updated, which is excellent. Furthermore, with organizations like the Grey Wardens openly threatening our community, as well as other raider communities, I want to do what I can to turn Osiris into the center of raider foreign affairs, and regional sovereignty. I would go as far to consider joining the Sovereignty Accords – an alliance between the Pacific, our regional ally, Balder, and the West Pacific; however, any decision like this I would like the cabinet and the pharaoh to discuss this together, and with consent from the Pharaoh, of course. We will not join an alliance that does not benefit Osiris both in the short and long term. Moreover, the more partners we have, the more influence we have on the international stage. Everything from regional treaties, to individual player connections that can benefit our region will be on the table, and open to discussion. I would also like to improve relations with regions across the board; however, in the case of regions like Lazarus, where members of the community harbor open hatred for our region, they will be avoided. The cabinet will work to isolate our enemies politically through whatever tools at our deposal. I am in it to win it with regards to foreign affairs. I want to make sure Osiris is at the top of its game. Foreign updates are not a huge priority of mine; however, we will try to get a couple released when we have plenty to write about. We will likely write updates as a group within the cabinet, each member writing a short article about what they oversee, and the foreign affairs Vizier will fill in the gaps and make it look pretty.
  • Community Affairs – I think Gradea is doing an amazing job, and will likely ask him again to serve as Vizier of community affairs again; however, if he is elected Chief of Scribes, and would like to maintain that position that is entirely fine. I will try to find the best person for the job. Moreover, I would like to create all new forms of jobs for members to take part in. This would include small jobs such as posting on the RMB, creating a RMB team from newer citizens to encourage them to talk more with members of the community, and the drive the RMB 24/7. I would like to make more use of the regional telegram system, sending announcements and “call-to-arms” messages to recruit for the military, the forum, and world assembly membership. I think they are an excellent way to direct people who are not sure how to get involved for all departments. The cabinet will also address the best, and most streamlined system for citizenship applications, finding work for newer members. When I was new to this game, all the applications were a bit much to handle. They still are. It is a lot easier to get lost looking for application after application on a forum you are not at all familiar with. We must do our best to guide new people to the forums, through the forums, and through the start of their game to overcome the massive learning curve that drains people’s interests. In addition, with foreign affairs high on the list, I expect there will be more festivals to come. My opinion on the best place to really have festivals would be on discord; however, I would like to explore, together with the Vizier of Community Affairs, new and creative ways to keep people on their toes and interested.
  • The Legion – This is simple. Bigger the better. With any hope, the foreign affairs department will help recruit new members to the Legion that are not necessarily new to raiding; moreover, I believe together with regional telegrams recruiting people to the World Assembly, sending telegrams asking people to sign up to the Legion often and, perhaps weekly, would not be a bad idea. The more members, the better. I expect the head of the army, and the Vizier of Community affairs to work closely in drafting these telegrams. With more members, and an active legion like we have now, I want to see Osiris listed or leading raids across the board. Big regions, small regions, anything that anyone believes is ambitions, I want Osiris at the forefront. Raiders are under attack, and as one of the world’s largest raiding regions, we need to look out and protect raiders in communities, extend a helping hand to operations and give respect to those that share in our identity.
Thank you for taking the time to read my thread. I greatly appreciate it, and look forward to answering your questions. Together we can make Osiris better one day at a time, one word at a time, so that everyone can have as much fun as I have been having here in our region. Again, thank you!

Best Regards.

As a note, there's no legal reason Gradea can't simultaneously serve as Vizier of Community Affairs and Chief Scribe, if elected to the latter office. Syberis was serving as Vizier of Foreign Affairs and Chief Scribe.

A few questions I'll be asking all Chief Vizier candidates:

1. What's your opinion of the recent regional state of emergency? And if you disagreed with it, how might you have advised the Pharaoh to handle it differently?

2. Do you believe Osiris should declare war against the Grey Wardens? Why or why not?

3. Pick one Feeder or Sinker we have no relations with -- The North Pacific, the South Pacific, Lazarus -- to re-establish relations with, and explain why you have chosen that Feeder or Sinker.

4. What, in your view, is the biggest problem in Osiris right now? And the biggest success?

5. Our RMB isn't very active in comparison to some other Feeders and Sinkers. Do you think that's an issue that should be addressed, or not much of a priority, and if you think it should be addressed, how would you address it as Chief Vizier? (I realize you've addressed this in your platform already, but since I've asked this of other candidates I'm still including it, and maybe this will give you an opportunity to talk about it more).

I will probably have more questions, but this will get us warmed up! :P

Updates bring people together, and raiding makes happiness. Not like defending against friends. I'm happy you're encouraging the military here, it's great. I also like your Community Affairs ideas.
Like, wow, you're not running against many candidates and yet wrote an amazing vision that aligns with what I'd personally do, too.

I have some questions as well

1) is Osiris ever getting an anime flag? >_<

2) which is more important- getting lots of foreign treaties, or not paying as much attention and focusing more on Osiris nations?

3) I think there needs to be more community stuff that's open for citizens to get involved in. I heard from Biyah that Gradea was spearheading a festival, but I can't find much in it...erm...personally I conducted a festival for Lazarus and we allowed citizens to bring something in....idk lol good luck (oops what even is this question--!) do you like cats?

4) Ooh, scary question- what if Benevolent Thomas wins the delegate elections for Lazarus, hm.... Q_Q

5) I'm likely going to get more militaristic during vacations...so I'd like to hear your thoughts regarding types of raiding. In general or in the name of Osiris:
-tag raids
-stealth raids
-raids that are piled in and held for 1 week, or 2 week
-liberations of regions from TGW control
-booting natives
-booting nations that are obviously only alive because of a puppet script
-raiding RP regions
-raiding dead regions
- Refounds
- whatever else I'm missing

(Note: just because I listed them doesn't mean I like doing all of them, they're just all the aspects of raiding I can think of right now)

6) Osiris is doing an allied op. Who should we try inviting?

---
(Note: I've seen defender orgs raid regions that have a native community just bc the delegate is a raider so >_< and then boot a ton of ppl destroying the community. That stuff doesn't get publicized as much...I think the invasion game dominates NS at this point, lol.)

-----

(P.s. I'm amazed you made it this far. I never expected you to come this far when I telegram-demanded you make a skype/discord and then you went wild writing giant walls of text >_< (yay I got someone involved in gameplay, eep did I doom them?!)
Can't deny that I'm hella proud like you're my own kid<3
I am also very glad you've found a home here...yes..Osiris does feel like home.)

Good luck Adytus

Regents?

What's your opinion of the recent regional state of emergency? And if you disagreed with it, how might you have advised the Pharaoh to handle it differently?
I think it was an excellent move. The Grey Wardens have made it know that they would attack our region given the chance, and allowing their members to continue to hold citizenship here is unacceptable. Everyone has a right to play this game however they want, but if you threaten Osiris, you get kicked out. This should not be surprising to anyone, anywhere. The Pharaoh gave several days for people to decide between the Wardens and Osiris, which I thought was a great way to handle the situation, instead of outright banning people without warning, or reason. Moreover, the Pharaoh would do whatever is necessary to ensure security is maintained.
believe Osiris should declare war against the Grey Wardens? Why or why not?
No, I do not believe we should outright declare war; however, we can fully maintain hostility. It is apparent that the Wardens are in a state of “war” with us already, so I do not believe there would be much use to an official state of war. If anything, it would just give the Wardens something to pick away at on some forum, somewhere. We can take what actions are necessary towards the Wardens right now without an actual war, but if the time calls for it, and their actions become bold, such as spamming our RMB, or attacking the region directly, war will be on the table.
3. Pick one Feeder or Sinker we have no relations with -- The North Pacific, the South Pacific, Lazarus -- to re-establish relations with, and explain why you have chosen that Feeder or Sinker.
I would improve relations with whatever region has the most Osirisan duel citizens. That said - I do not believe Lazarus is in a state to improve relations right now. There are several people that are openly hostile to Osiris, and likely future delegates that will not be any more welcoming to relations with us, nor do I believe people want relations with them. From my understanding, there are characters within the South Pacific that do not believe our government is proper too, so I would have to pick the North Pacific. They are not ally material, but someone that would not hurt to maintain relations with. It would help solidify our international regions as well.
4. What, in your view, is the biggest problem in Osiris right now? And the biggest success?
The biggest issue in Osiris right now, in my opinion, would be the encouragement of new people to stay here, and post here. Within the top ten posters on the regional forum, only three of them are citizens, and only recently the number jumped from two to three. This needs to change, for sure. We need to make it easier for new people, or re-founded nations to get involved, and provide information that is quick to read and understand about the forum, the RMB, and our community in general. Our biggest success, the festival right now – what a post count! We broke the record for posts in a month, and most ever in a day yesterday, or just two days ago. Excellent work, everyone!
Like I said in my platform, I want to give the people of the community more jobs, and more ways to feel involved, and taking part. This would include the possible creation of an RMB team, composed of newer players or people without a ton of time that would post everything from their nation’s stats to casual conversation. After awhile, we should have an action, driving RMB regardless of the team if we help foster an environment where conversation is encouraged.
1) is Osiris ever getting an anime flag? >_<
Yes. Just – yes. This will happen given time.
which is more important- getting lots of foreign treaties, or not paying as much attention and focusing more on Osiris nations?
I think we can do both, and that both are important. I do not believe I will be limited to one or the other. We will have a vizier of foreign affairs who’s sole focus is to help us draft many, foreign treaties, I hope. Furthermore, there will be several Viziers who will be addressing internal issues, such as sending regional telegrams to recruit nations, and typing up drafts for regional announcements or newspapers. However, if I had to pick one, internal affairs comes first, foreign treaties, second.
Yes, I love cats. I have a cat of my own named Joe, and I will brag about him whenever I get the chance. And I understand what you are saying [haha], and yes – I would like to have more citizens contributing to what happens within the region, talking with the Viziers and sub-Viziers of matters involving internal affairs.
Benevolent Thomas wins the delegate elections for Lazarus, hm.... Q_Q
This is an issue that was discussed in the cabinet, and throughout the community, and is something that we will be watching closely, both as an Osirisan and a Lazarene. I trust that BT will not aggressive provoke Osiris into hostile action, or take it upon himself to start a war; however, since he is head of the Wardens, I can see the reasons are there. But he has a responsibility to Lazarus, and if he were going to do what is best for Lazarus, acting hostile towards Osiris would not be the best course of action, and people there may have the same feelings. I plan to continue our course of avoiding Lazarus, and keeping our sphere and their sphere as separate as we can until better terms are presented.
5) I'm likely going to get more militaristic during vacations...so I'd like to hear your thoughts regarding types of raiding. In general or in the name of Osiris:
-tag raids
-stealth raids
-raids that are piled in and held for 1 week, or 2 week
-liberations of regions from TGW control
-booting natives
-booting nations that are obviously only alive because of a puppet script
-raiding RP regions
-raiding dead regions
- Refounds
- whatever else I'm missing
They all sound like exciting ventures that I would encourage. Building the military is on my list of priorities, and whatever we can undertake to help this goal is good to me. I want to encourage these operations with our allies, and increase our scope of operations whenever we can. I want us to have the numbers to active partake in all the activities you have listed. I have to admit too that I am not well versed in raider and defender tactics, but I will be taking with military advisors all the time to make sure I have the best understanding of any circumstances before we make a more.
6) Osiris is doing an allied op. Who should we try inviting?
Balder, Lone Wolves United, and any other raider group that would like to work with us, and has a respectable record and reputation, would be a good idea. Like I have said, I would like Osiris to be a center – if not the center – of the raider world, so as much corporation as we can get, the better.
