The Seidr

The Seidr first came to settle in the lands of Osiris from the seas many centuries ago. The Island of Seidria is under their complete control and the capital of Odinston is situated on the high cliffs on the north east of the island.

Masters of wind and water, both figuratively and literally, they wield powerful magics as a people, which they use to both aid in their exploration of the seas and the river deltas of Osiris. The magics they utilize have also led them to produce high yields of foods as their island is primarily devoted to farmland.

Beyond the city of Odinston, there is only one other major city on the island, devoted to shipbuilding. This city, Freylan, lies on the southern tip of the island. Both cities house the temples of the priesthoods of Odin and Freya respectively. The Temple of Thor lies in the interior of the island, surrounded by one of the many small villages that administer the farmlands.

Society is fairly egalitarian across the sexes and races, with a merit based system of promotion. However, only members of one of the three dominant priesthoods are able to hold any position of societal authority. The magic users are split among three distinct priesthoods.

The Priesthood of Freyja:

This Priesthood consists almost exclusively of women, who develop their powers over the air. Those there are some members of this priesthood who are men, authority lies with the women.

The followers of Freyja are directed to develop control of the wind, weather, and flight. Mastery of all three are a requirement for acceptance into the priesthood.

Their symbol is the Distaff over Clouds.

The Priesthood of Odin:

Priests of Odin concern themselves with power over water. The priests of this sect are primarily male, though Priestesses of Odin are much more common than Priests of Freyja.

Practitioners of water magic are expected to be expert seafarers, capable cryomancers, and most importantly capable of summoning water at will from the surrounding environment. In the dry deserts of Osiris, this skills makes a follower of Odin one of the most sought out resources.

Their symbol is the Staff over Waves.

The Priesthood of Thor:

Priest of Thor are drawn from both sexes, and develop their powers over both water and air, while emphasizing a focus on armed combat. The Priests of Thor are the effective armed forces of the Seidr, and also the primary rulers of the Island.

Both the Priesthoods of Freyja and Odin agreed long ago that neither priesthood would be allowed to rule the island(at least peacefully or for very long), and created the Priesthood of Thor to act as a ruling faction. While members of either Priesthood may hold any other position in government the High Priest or Priestess of Thor is the effective leader of the Fiefdom.

Members of this priesthood who are capable warriors but not magic users exist, but are uncommon.

Their symbol is the Hammer over Lightning.

The people of Seidria are of fair complexion as they originated from the Far Away Land of Vinland(at least according to their own histories). They were granted their fiefdom long ago by the Pharaoh, under the promise that a majority of their land would be devoted to growing crops for trade with the other fiefs.

Their farming capabilities are well known throughout Osiris, but their methods are fairly poor in reality. If not for the support of their magic, they would have little success.

Many young priests are known to go a-viking and find themselves on quests all over the known world. Many hope to bring knowledge, power, or simple treasure home in the hopes of proving themselves.

OOC: Citizens of this land are open to use by others. Make it up as you go along, just make sure whatever you write doesn't contradict anything I've written here. I reserve the right to use any of the high priests or priestesses and the government of Seidria in future RPs.
