Introduction: King Claudius Valhalla III, the aged ruler of the Resentine Kingdom, has entered the race on the recommissioned Resentinian naval destroyer-turned-"yacht" RRN Deliverance. While Claudius hopes the former destroyer's speed will make up for it's age, his true goal is simply to have a "good time" as he dispatches his crew to hand out drinks and snacks not only on his boat, but any that he should pass by.
Nation’s Leader Name: Claudius Valhalla III
Visual Description: Claudius is very much an elder statesman, balding with an almost snow-white mustache and goatee. He wears only a simple 3 black suit and a royal blue tie, his only royal vestments being his signet ring on his right hand. his golden crown however, is forced on him by his underlings whenever they pass another national leader.
Personality/Skills: Claudius did serve time in the Resentine Royal Navy, he knows quite well the operations and physical limits of whatever ship he is in. He is also a skilled leader, and is good at delegating tasks to the appropriate underlings.
Weakness/Fears: Claudius is, to his detriment, too relaxed. Unbothered by political dispute or competition, his lackadaisical attitude can lead to an unconcerned response will lead to him simply not being in a rush when he ought to be. Should a crisis arise or should another participant start gaining, he could very well throw a party instead of mush the crew of his ship.

Assistant 1: Gregory Glassner, Retired Prime Minister. Unintentionally and unwillingly talked/pressured into this over drinks, Former Prime Minister Glassner will serve has the King's First Officer on this voyage.

Assistant 2: Alexandre Bedard, Royal Chamberlain. Alexandre serves as the King's supervisor for affairs and coordination with the Resentine Government, and continues to serve in that role dutifully as he hopes to the Gods that he can figure out what any of this navy stuff means.

Visual Description of Boat: a recently recommissioned navy destroyer-escort, rushed back into service to be the Royal "yacht" for this race. The rust is freshly painted over, and half the cannons have either been decommissioned or removed. Though the lack of weight on board the aged vessel has helped increase the speed. Of course, no one brought up to the King that, perhaps, a blue water naval vessel might be too large for such a race.
Special Features: RADAR, one recently recommissioned naval cannon, one still-decomissioned torpedo launcher, high speed engines, the Resentine Royal Navy Band, one fully stocked bar & personal dining quarters, and a small family of hedgehogs (since they couldn't get the hedgehog anti-submarine weapons working).

The Tethysi have no singular leader, and so in place of one leader and two assistants, three members of the Grand Council sit in the boat, and ten more try desperately to stop it from sinking.

Nation’s Leader Names, visual descriptions, etcetera:
The Grand Council
- Zu Vaisusspawn of the Order of the Autumn Butterfly carries a double-candleblade and wears prototype non-Feathered Eel based Full-Plot Armour and the Dream Mantle. They are usually serene, but has a sense of humour, prone to finding joy and amusement in unlikely places, and is known to have a bit of an ego. Their preferred genres are philosophy and science fiction.
- Calligan Zhuferansspawn of the Order of the Silver Lantern wields Future Feather, a blade that is harmless when wielded, but can conjure slashes where it has touched once sheathed, and wears Full-Plot Armour. Vibrant, confident and eclectic, with an easy-going charm that verges ever close to smarm. Their prefer music and books on music or dance, from a variety of genres.
- Strosz Gardatossspawn of the Order of the Aqua Hippeastrum wields a Wingaxe and Erashield, with a backup Candleblade, and wears Full-Plot Armour. They are selfless, brave, kind and serious, seemingly honestly so. Their preferred genres are history and fables.
- Elvand Ganrinsspawn of the Order of Amethyst wields a staff carrying their own damaged Autobiography, and wears Half-Plot Armour. Tired, grouchy, but truly good-natured at heart. Their preferred genres are history, psychology and science.
- Melencal Aeschearesspawn of the Order of the Silken Word wields a Wingbow and wears Full-Plot Armour. They are adaptable to whatever is required in a particular situation.
- Kyua Chaekosspawn of the Order of the Sea Cat carries a Wingspear and backup Candleblade, and wears Half-Plot Armour and the Paradoxicat Mantle. Kyua's temperament closely matches that of their order - relaxed, calm, lazy even, but quick and sharp when spurred to action and ferocious when pushed. Whether this is truly their personality or simply a persona they have adopted, only they know. Their preferred genres are history, mythology and fiction related to those.
- Sezorah Ramtiyasspawn of the Order of the Sun Crown carries a Wingkhopesh and wears Full-Plot Armour. Sezorah has been called hubristic and boastful, but their feigned arrogance hides their insecurities about the huge pressures they labour under. They are forced to endlessly read and recite histories of the old Armada, specifically the deeds of Seti zho Sunruler, but in rare moments of solitude they prefer to read young fiction about the everyday lives of ordinary people in other nations.
- Valead Draccardsspawn of the Order of the Ink Heart wears Half-Plot Armour and eschews a Wing-Weapon, instead creating Quill-weapons from their feathered half-cape. They are cheerful, pleasant, garrulously exuberant and excessively theatrical, often posing as the most ineffectively dastardly of villains. Their preferred genres are fairy tales, romances and high fantasy.
- Lashanugi of the Order of the Coral Shell is a deity that can create a physical form for the situation, usually defaulting to a coral-covered tortoise. Lashanugi is usually calm, quiet, often seeming grumpy. However, when roused, it can be terrifyingly wrathful. Its preferred genres are childrens' stories, which it sometimes reads to the youth of the nation, but also sociology and environmental science.
- Grist Haphtahsspawn of the Order of the Burning Step wields a rare Wingclub and wears Half-Plot Armour. Loud, boisterous, determined, but capable of being methodical and analytical when required. Usually quite cheerful and easy to get along with. Their preferred genres are action comics and historical epics.
- Nite Joakinspawn of the Order of the Pun Crown wields Long's Word, the blade of the order's first commander, carries an Erashield buckler, and wears Full-Plot Armour. Nite is jovial and good-natured, rarely seeming to take anything seriously, though they take a great interest in cultivating talent. Their favourite genre is comedy, especially in the form of theatre and poetry.
- Jornir Halzansspawn of the Order of Drakefire wields a Wingcannon and backup Candleblade, and wears Full-Plot Armour with a Skysight Helm. Ruthlessly efficient in battle, cheerfully pleasant outside of it, with a kindly protectiveness. Their preferred genres are military tactics and fiction.
- The unknown representative of the Order of Pumice wields a Full Eraser hammer and Erasure Rifle, wearing Full-Plot Armour. Though they are quiet, unflappable and cold, there is one trait that some have called a 'personality quirk' - they seem to have a particular disdain for arrogance and smugness, particularly when paired with stupidity. Whether this is true or just a rumour is unknown.

Visual Description of Boat: A beauty in sapphire-trimmed marble at a distance, a bit of a mess up close - the Shackleram is a hastily made canoe for three with handholds for ten more to hold it afloat from below.
Special Features: Due to the entropic effect of the Land of the Dead on outside materials, the lack of any trade as of yet within the Land of the Dead, and the fact that their outpost has barely been set up, the Tethysi were forced to make their vessel from what they could find within their explored areas. Unfortunately, ink, mercury, and salt are not great building materials, leaving only marble and sapphire. The bold Tethysian artificers tried their best, and made something that is only seaworthy with the combined efforts of some of the nation's greatest warriors. After much bickering and a vote, it was decided that the three to sit within the canoe would be Sezorah Ramtiyasspawn, Nite Joakinsspawn and the representative from the Order of Pumice. The first two cannot stand each other, and the last never speaks, so this does not bode well.
Thanks to the ten-leader propulsion system, the Shackleram can go at a considerable pace in a straight line. Turning it is a terrible challenge however, and deciding where to turn it is an even greater one.

Scenario 1: Crisis! Your rowing system is jammed! Whether it be oars, an engine, or a magical water power, something’s malfunctioning. What does your crew do?

The dahabiya surged around a bend in the Nile when several oars suddenly struck a mass of tangled reeds beneath the water. They were jammed and the boat was stilled.
The rowers strained, but the oars would not move. Rival boats began to pass.
Captain Menka ordered the oars pulled in and Prince Nebemakhet stepped calmly toward the mast. Raising his staff to the sky, he called out:
“O Shu, lord of the air, bearer of the heavens, breathe upon our sail! Carry us forward across the sacred waters!”
At first nothing happened. Dragonflies buzzed about the boat and an egret left its perch on the bank.
Then suddenly a powerful wind swept down the Nile. The linen sail snapped open and filled with air, pulling the dahabiya free of the reeds. The crew cheered as the boat gathered speed.
Nebemakhet lowered his staff and smiled.
“Give thanks to Shu—and prepare the oars. This race is not yet won.”

The Tragedy of the Shackleram opened, and it did so with a blade.

Almost immediately after setting forth, the Grand Council began another furious debate about how to proceed, the 'propulsion system' of ten councillors first waiting for the three aboard to come to a decision and then joining in the argument. A moment of thoughtlessness, a slur from Sezorah directed at the deity aiding in the propulsion of their craft, created a dark opportunity. Still things could have been resolved, even with what came next, if not for the other compounding factors of infamy.
The Grand Council had operated successfully for many years, despite duels and civil wars, able to reconvene, rally, restore peace. There was no reconvening here. They were stuck with each other, adrift in a strange land, far from home.
Others who would have intervened were absent. Without the steadying presence of the civil service and lesser Order Commanders, conflicts long thought buried lent just enough distrust and discontent for what followed.
As could only be expected, the Grand Council was a complex web of relationships, friendships and rivalries alike. They had spoken long, fought alongside each other, debated literature into the night. Many liked each other. Some thought they knew each other. Few fully trusted each other.
Worst of all, as ever, was the obsession. The Tethysi cannot just let things go, even when they know it is the right thing to do, if they feel the story demand otherwise, at least not without great struggle against the ideals they were raised on. If the weight of the narrative calls for miscommunication, they will not communicate. If it requires their death, they will die.
And so, the propulsion jammed.
None of them would ever take responsibility for the blade when it appeared, jammed in Melencal Aeschearesspawn's side, passing through the Full-Plot Armour like paper. A lethal wound, to one of the greatest heroes of this era. Valead Draccardsspawn was immediately blamed by some - swimming close to Melencal, and having long been a problematic commander, frequent foe and occasional embarrassment to the nation. They insisted their innocence even as they created a weapon to defend themself, levelling their own accusation at the ever-more independent Zu and the capriciously unknowable Kyua. Elvand and Grist came to Valead's defence, Jornir rallying to Kyua and Calligan swimming with Zu, while Jornir alone tried to deescalate, to no avail, for only Melencal would have had the way with words to calm seven bloodthirsty Tethysi at once. Those on the boat could not react in time. The story demanded blood, and found it in Valead, the warrior who lived their life playing the villain, perishing insistent that they were not.
Eight remained to push the Shackleram and its three occupants to the next stage of the race.

"What do you mean the damned thing's jammed?!" King Claudius shouted at his underlings in the midst of downing yet another mimosa on the ship's bridge. He was really hoping this 'racing party thing' would be calming his nerves. Engine failure was yet another setback on his plans to get away from Parliament for more than 5 minutes.
"Well, sir, uhhhhh..." his Chamberlain stumbled, "I didn't say jammed specifically, Your Majesty. Ummm, the engineers, the engineers told me there was a malfunction with certain parts of the engine due to the rush to service. There was, ummm, an issue with the main piston, something about the scavenge manifold, u-"
"Oh psssh, I'm sure the engineers have their very specific parts or whatever they need fixed. Can't be a boat party race if there's no boat moving, I'm sure they'll figure it out." Claudius dragged Chamberlain Bedard over to the bar he'd managed to install on the bridge. "Come my friend, the engineers will do their part, and we must do ours: get them some drinks ready when they're done fixing the thing and we get underway in a few minutes."
Bedard stepped back, attempting to take a more confident stance with his boss, "Your Majesty, um, the engineers said that repairs would take quite some um, time. They said...... they said lacking the spare parts, something uhhhh trying to fabricate something on the go?"
"Ludacris! That doesn't sound like much fun at all! Against the spirit of this race! Where's Gregory? He'll know what to do!"
What crew was on the bridge cleared way as King Claudius Valhalla III moved swiftly towards the ship's intercom, and Claudius bellowed "Hello? Hello!, Frist Mate Glassner, please report to the bridge immediately! A crisis has descended!"
The tired, retired, untired, and hopefully soon to be retired again politician that was Gregory Glassner stumbled his way up the narrow metal stairs to the ship's bridge, fresh off his afternoon nap. While Claudius could be a strong leader in moments, he could only do so much (or so little, depending on interest) before he needed a hand with direction. Gregory stopped to catch his breath shorly before calmly striding through the Bridge's doors.
Claudius, excited, immediately went in for a hug. "It's good you made it up! Please, I need someone with your mind to solve this little engineer business."
Gregoy"Oh no? Barely started and we already have ship troubles. What's the issue?"
The Chamberlain attempted to start but Claudius swiftly interrupted, "They say the engine won't started, they need spare parts, some of which we seem to not have. Hardly an issue, they're all good lads, they'll figure it out."
"Spare parts you say?" Gregory queried as his memories began to work. He turned towards Bedard, "Tell me, when was this boat built?"
The Chamberlain made swift progress, getting his answer out before he could get interrupted again, "Well sir, um, it was something around 40 years ago?" Bedard double checked his notes and then proclaimed with confidence, "45 years ago sir, decommissioned 10 years ago."
"Hmmm..... I think that just narrowly works out for us." Glassner stated rather plainly, "You ever notice how the torpedo launchers on this boat are too big, almost a little comically big? during the civil war, the government passed a 'cost saving measure' to create interchangeable parts on ships for easy repairs out at sea. All it really did was just make anything that needed a motor that wasn't a ship more expensive. It won't be exact to scale, but it should be close enough to just maybe work. And then at worst I guess we get the engineers to try and scrap the torpedo launchers themselves to make spares, at least that's something."
Claudius leapt with joy, "Yes! See Gregory, I knew bringing you along on this little getaway was a grand idea! Come, let's go make sure there's something ready in the mess for when those lads get it fixed!"

While being dragged away by his King, Gregory turned to the befuddled Chamberlain and, with a look combining pity and belief, said, "Alex, go let those poor engineers know. Coordinate them, you've got this." The brave last words of the First Mate on this strange vessel before being abducted to coordinate the crew's lunch.

The Resentine crew are going to attempt to fix their engine by scrapping spare parts from their defunct torpedo systems.

Scenario 2: Look! Something has caught the boats around you’s attention. There’s a ripple under the surface of the water, then eyes peering up at you. Suddenly, the head of a giant sea serpent emerges! What does your crew do?
