AtLA Character Creation Contest Avatar, the Last Airbender is by far one of the best early animated series I’ve ever watched. I’m sincerely kicking myself for not watching it sooner! None-the-less, I have now and I love it! The worldbuilding is vast and rich, so there’s tons of unique ways to casually build upon it. So thus, i introduce to you: the AtLA Character Creation Contest!

Your goal is to create a character that lives in the AtLA universe, whether that be past, present, future, elemental bender, non-elemental bender, a cousin to a character, a child, a lost sibling, an avatar, a royal, a commoner, etc. It’s completely up to you.

You may submit a drawing or a written description ( or both ), of your character. The more you include, the better!

Name: Silun
Role: The First Smokebender,
Elemental Bending: Air, Smoke (Air with movements from Fire Bending)
Appearance: Gray and red version of the air nomad clothing, mixed in with some of the Earth kingdom clothing. Black hair with green eyes.
Story: In the future, 30 years after the story of Korra, an Air Elemental is born. His parents were migrants from the Fire Nation, hoping to see what happened with the Air Nomads, 100 years after the war. It was sprawling and growing with new life, after almost being exterminated by the previous fire nation. There, they had the child they named Silun. When he was 5, he was taken by the Air school as a student of Air bending. He quickly grew faster than the other students and wanted a challenge. That is when his father taught him the movements of fire bending, which were tougher for him to learn. At the age of 15, he mastered the movements of fire bending and was an expert at Air bending. For his Graduation from the school, he wanted to show them all what he had learned from his father. He started to use Air bending with the fire bending movements and a ball of smoke covered him and terrified everyone at the graduation, thinking he was trying to burn the school, when in actuality, he created the first subbending type of Air bending, named smoke bending. He was shunned out by the other Airbenders, and so he left, traveling towards the continent that made up the earth nation. In there, he started showing the art of smokebending to the people of the Earth Republic, which amazed them. When he was 20, he tried joining a newly created police force, called the Gen-Dhau. With his smoke, he was able to distract criminals, hide like a shadow and incapacitate dangerous people, leading to the Gen-Dhau accepting him. For 20 years he fights the crime in the streets of Republic City, and he probably will not stop, until he feels as though he is worthy to go back to the Air Nomads.

• Being Type : Fairy Spirit
• Role : Cursed Spirit (Prankster)

Mon Li Yang was once a respected and revered spirit that brought peace to all it encountered. However, after an harsh encounter with Koh in the spirit realm that left Mon Li Yang faceless, the spirit became drowned in sadness and angst, spoiling the spirit's usual good nature. Mon Li Yang became distraught with anger at Koh but unable to avenge their misfortune, Mon Li Yang became to spite humans; whom they once adored and loved to make happy, now a more adequate target. Now the spirit spends it's days roaming the known earth spreading misfortune and being a prankster to any it meets. Many swear that the rock they tripped on wasn't there before they tripped on it. Being swarmed by a relentless flock of Buzzard Wasps, yet you didn't antagonize them? What about the brand new tea kettle that seemingly edged it's way off the table, breaking into multiple pieces? All of which are pranks that Mon Li Yang enjoys, all to bring down the most unfortunate who cross paths with it.

Mon Li Yang dares not venture back into the Spirit Realm, fearful of running into Koh sporting it's used-to-be face.

No one knows what truly started the volcanic eruption, no human at least. But amongst the Spirits, it is known that Mon Li Yang, in it's most spiteful and destructive attempt in bringing misfortune used it's powers to force an early eruption on Roku's Island. After Fire Lord Sozin arrived and started helping Avatar rescue islanders and try and contain the eruption, Mon Li Yang was unimpressed. It decided to start the second volcanic eruption, presumably quenching it's thirst for destruction and human-suffering, resulting in Avatar Roku's demise. This one act of aggressive, miserable, hatred left the Avatar dead and laid the foundations for the 100 year war with Fire Lord Sozin at the helm of the burning ash.

Mon Li Yang continues their journey from one end of the known earth and back, destined to continue their prankster ways until they work through their anger.

Thaura, Northern Water Tribe



Thaura is a fairly mediocre Waterbender by most standards, struggling even to perform the water whip. However, they have instead specialised almost entirely in the manipulation of temperature. As a result, they can turn freezing ice to scalding steam and back with frightening speed. Their methods gained them some suspicion during the war, as it was deemed too close to emulating Firebenders, and as a result they were essentially banished to one of the outlying villages of the tribe, quite far from the capital. Opinions changed somewhat when they successfully drove off a dozen-strong firebender assault, separating them with fog before trapping them inside boiling steam clouds surrounded by spheres of ice. Every attempt to breach the ice would simply accelerate their demise to the steam, and those who managed to escape were too weak to continue fighting and were forced to withdraw. Thaura remained in that village after the war, declining to take a student despite a fair number of applicants, content to live a quiet and peaceful life.
