Altino, Chief Vizier! Hello!

After having closely watched Osiris for quite a bit, I am now proud to announce my campaign for the office of Chief Vizier. I have been a child of the world on NationStates, popping up in regions that I found particularly notable and watching them to find what works to create lasting activity in a region and what doesn't work. I now come to you well equipped and anxious to put what I've learned to work here on the home front. I initially came to Osiris for the same reason that I come to all regions - simple observance - but have become a citizen and maintained activity because of the people here. I trust you, I know that you are hard workers, and I know that you would work just as hard as I would to see this region do good things. I come to you now asking for the opportunity to take what I have learned and put it to use here with you.

On NationStates, it has been my lot in life to step into quiet regions and bump up activity. I see a perfect opportunity to do that here. I've already set my mind to being present and seeing activity grow in Osiris. Already we're seeing our regional Discord come to life, a definite step in the right direction, but I believe that we've got more left in us! Here are a few things that I would like to see worked on during my term:

Domestic Affairs: New blood is what keeps a region alive. To really thrive, a region needs people in it who will not only demand activity, but will be excited and willing to offer it. A strong union between the older and more experienced players and their young counterparts is the only thing that can really bring activity that will last. This starts with some in-region activity to grab and hold the attention or lurking and new nations who haven't gotten involved in the region at large. That means drumming up a group of people who will keep the RMB active and engage any new people who speak up, consistent pOLLS (<3 Wrek), and a Welcome Telegram written so that every single nation who passes through this region hears from us and is given the opportunity to get involved. I've got a few more ideas for activities in the region, perhaps working out a few holidays, trying to plan out region Festivals, etc. as well to keep the forums busy. Discord is on its way up; it's time that the rest of the region see its rise in activity.

Foreign Affairs: As a child of the world, I'm already fairly well known in the NSverse. My visits to notable regions has gotten me acquainted with their leadership, and I'm very comfortable working with them. Osiris, Balder, and to an extent TRR have received most of my attention as far as Sinkers go, but I share the desires of several of other citizens in our region to see a strong union between the Sinkers, and I feel certain that our combined influence among our fellow Sinkers could begin with our upcoming festival and end with far stronger ties.

World Assembly: What I want to see most from the World Assembly is endorsements. We currently have between 200-300 WA regions in Osiris, but the Pharaoh is resting at around 170 endorsements. In addition to a recruitment tool, I want to see a new Welcome Telegram set up to not only encourage our 4000-something nations to join the World Assembly, but to be sure that they're endorsing the delegate and keeping our region secure.

Military: Osiris' military is quiet right now, but all it really takes to get things started again is consistency. We have everything we need already to be successful in this area, all we need to do is get active and work on recruitment. I think a very good first step would be to start actively raiding with other organizations. I'm working with TWPAF right now and would be pleased to see the Legion training and raiding alongside a fellow GCR to boost our own activity and help recruit and train our own troops.

Conflict of Interest Disclosure: The only other regions that I'm currently in leadership with is Karma - a region that I started with Badger, Halo, Rigel, and a few others - and TWP, where I'm helping to run TWPAF.

Thank you all for taking the time to hear out my ideas and giving me the chance to serve you as Chief Vizier. Ultimately, what I want is to take a hard internal focus and create a level of activity that will last. We have a strong community already, all we need now is to grow it. I know that this is not an easy job, but I feel like a focus on building up activity and culture in the region is exactly what Osiris needs, and I'm happy to offer my help, if you choose to take it. Please don't hesitate to ask me here on this thread or via DM if you have any further questions. I can be reached most quickly via TG to Altino or Discord DM.

Thanks!

I'm a citizen in Karma, Exodus, TWP, Equilism, and KoGB. Forgot to mention that earlier. Full disclosure. :)

Hi Altino! I think this is a pretty strong platform, but I have a couple questions for you.

1. There used to be a treaty called the Pan-Sinker Security Pact (PSSP) that united all the Sinkers in mutual defense. That treaty spectacularly failed for a variety of reasons, including differences in how it should be enforced, differences in political culture, and differences in military alignment. There are still significant differences in political culture and military alignment between the four Sinkers. How would you ensure that a new pan-Sinker project doesn't end up failing as the PSSP did? What common ground does Osiris have with Lazarus and the Rejected Realms besides the Sinker tag?

2. Regarding the military, how will you ensure that if the Legion is working more often with other regions and organizations, it doesn't just become an auxiliary force for those regions and organizations? In other words, what will you do to ensure that the Legion is still an independent force able to conduct its own operations? We've had periods of time in Osiris' past in which the military has become nothing more than an auxiliary force for others, and I don't want to see us return to that time.

Thanks, and good luck!

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and ask questions, Cormac, I appreciate that. :)

1. I think that Sinkers by the laws of the game are bound to have something in common, whether we function similarly or not. We're going to have similar struggles, just because we're gaining most of our nations in the same way. I think that common ground should be a good enough place to start a friendship from. At the same time, I think that our differences should be something that we celebrate. Now, I'm not so disillusioned to believe that we can just walk in the door with a treaty position and seal the deal within a week. A friendship takes time to build.. and a friendship is really what I would like to see, more so than something like an alliance, and then we can sort of feel the atmosphere from there. This festival seems like an excellent way to start. The reality is, we do have something in common, but we're bleak in the way of connection. I would just like to see a friendship grown and cared for. Perhaps in the future our festivals or joint events could be even grander, with creative contributions from a very diverse group of people.

2. It can be a fine line between being an organization that's willing to lend a hand and an organization that depends on another for its survival. I was for a while running the military in Exodus. It's a small region and the military didn't exist before I stepped in. I at first made the mistake of relying on KoGB to train our own troops, but that ended up just leading to Exodus nearly doubling KoGB's jumping force (to the point that it seemed unreasonable for them to be showing up to a simple tag with something like 11 jumpers on a casual Tuesday), but leaving Exodus unable or unwilling to do their own thing, because they were kept so busy with things with another region. I later dropped most of our activity with KoGB, unless they specifically needed help, and focused on ties with Hellenic Empire and KAF. This worked better for us because we started off not asking for help, but in offering support. In my experience, coming at these things from this angle makes all the difference. We don't ask any orgs to help train our troops, we offer to let their troops tag along in a joint training raid or offer our troops to help support a large class size in their training raids. It's all in how you approach things. And of course more than that, in the will of your organization's leadership's insistence that Legion is our home base, and insist on doing our own operations.
We can offer support to other organizations as long as we refuse to become dependent on them.

You are so right! I myself took a Cosmopolitan approach to NS just because I was so new. I needed to get my name out in the world, and I needed to do it quickly. I ended up with honestly more on my plate than time in the day to do it. I probably wouldn't stop my world travels, as long as they were still profitable, but I've certainly slowed them down. The real key to avoiding the real drawbacks of being a child of the world have been 1) to make my intentions clear. I don't give off any illusions or promises or activity to any region that I pop up in unless I intend to give it. I tell them where I'm from, what I do there, and tell them that I'm going to hang out for a while, and that's it. 2) I don't poke my nose in their business. I'm more of a quiet observer than an active participant in regions that I don't consider myself active in. If they have disputes or problems, I watch them play out, but I don't try to interfere if it isn't my concern and 3) I keep my "home" in mind. I only work in 2 or 3 regions at a time, and though I contribute to other regions from time to time when I can make a quick and easy difference, I don't get too deep in other regions because I don't want them to take away with my real focus.

Essentially, being honest with both myself and the regions that I visit is key to not getting roped up in anything that too crazy.

She almost forgot about how she was in KoGB.
