Hail and well met, fellow Osirans!

I am Syberis Montresor-Isaraider. I am speaking to you today to tell you about my candidacy for Chief Scribe of our fair region.

I am aware, I am fairly new to the region, but don't be fooled. I love this community, and I really feel I have found a home here. We are a powerful community, full of good and earnest people, and I wish to to help Osiris be the best that it can be.

As far as my experience, I'm the kind of person who reads rules and regulations for fun. I like picking through the rules with a fine toothed comb and making sure that they are applied properly and fairly. It can make me tedious to argue with, but in this case, I do feel that it is a strong selling point. I'm also a Sergeant with The Black Hawks, and I work in our Foreign Affairs department, so I have some experience with NS political dynamics.

As far as what I'll add to the position that has been missing, I've been trying to come up with ways to get gameside involved, and get more people drawn into Osiris. To that end, I suggest some sort of Scribes' ticker on the WFE. Those of us who spend time on the Skype channel are familiar with Cormac's occasional posting, reminding us what is up at vote. Instead of creating a dispatch, I suggest that we put something at the top of Osiris' page, so that we can't ignore it, there are no additional clicks, and perhaps we'll get an uptick in activity.

Osiris is a great community, filled with some of the best people I've seen on NS. I know that all of you will choose the path most likely to help Osiris succeed, and I truly believe that I will make this region a better place, in my own small way. Vote Syberis, and I will strive to perform my duties better than anyone else.

A few citizens have come to me with questions regarding my campaign, and they generally have had the same major, overarching question. "How do we increase involvement in the Council of Scribes?" Due to this, I felt that I'd give some of my ideas here, to kill multiple birds with the same stone.

When I first started here, I found that one of the biggest concerns was the organization of the forums. Everything has its own place, but because of that, a lot of relevant information is hidden behind multiple other screens. Efficiency is key when we're trying to get people involved; they don't want to feel like they're falling down the rabbit hole. My earlier suggestion for links on the WFE for all major votes and ideas is a huge part of my plan to help make the Council of Scribes more accessible to new citizens, but I don't think it goes far enough.

If I had my way, I would like to sit down with Koth and Cormac, and discuss a way to set up the forums to help keep the goings-on of the Council of Scribes prominent. The Palace of the Scribes is one of 5 subforums for the State, Government, and Legislature tab, and behind that wall, are 6 more subforums. There has to be a better way, and one that doesn't make people feel like they have to negotiate a massive maze to reference a discussion from a week ago. Complexity is great for those who are already involved, but there has to be a simplicity at the surface to get new people involved.

I do like Gradea's suggestion of a dispatch, don't get me wrong. It could do a lot. But dispatches fall into the same problem of navigating a maze. If anything, perhaps an occasional mass telegram would also be useful. That TG would show up as a fresh notification for all citizens, and it could give a quick rundown of the same things the dispatch would. We need to bring people out of the woodwork, and help them feel included, and sometimes that means digging, trying to find these people who want to get involved, but feel intimidated by the over-organization.

The Council of Scribes has a lot of potential, and it does a lot of absolutely amazing things, but ultimately, I think we can all admit that it could be even better. And why settle for good? We in Osiris should always strive for exceptional. And, I feel with a bit of tweaking, that's what the Council of Scribes could become; A truly exceptional legislature, where all citizens feel that they can voice their opinions and make valuable contributions.

What would you do differently, than is being done now?

For one, I'd create a new group chat, whether in Skype, IRC, Discord, or whatever works, dedicated to real-time discussion, drafting, and debate for the Council of Scribes. From there, we can get ideas floating around and address any concerns or procedural questions in real time. First, we need more activity. A growing Osiris will have its own concerns when it comes to keeping the Council of Scribes moving forward, but that's a bridge I'm sure we can cross when we get to it.

What do you think of Gradea's "Slate of the Scribes" idea?

I think it's a good idea, and like I mentioned, I'd like to do something similar. I'm not sold on a dispatch being the best way to do it, though. As people may have noticed, I'm generally leery of people having to already know where to go. However, it would be a great idea if used in conjunction with other methods. Perhaps a weekly TG to go with it would be best.
