CONDEMNED: Guilt by association

SPECIAL | Sergeant Tyegëa

Through a series of failed proposals of the same name and purpose -- all ill-written -- before it and even its present state of #187, the region of DEN has been branded as one of the condemned: as an entity towards which widespread, apoplectic shock, horror, disgust and rage have all been expressed of its actions and crimes towards nativedom and defenders alike.

DEN, not even a year old in this present-day incarnation, has raided many, many regions: numbering in their thousands, and possibly even in their tens of thousands! For DEN shall sleep not through the long nights, for DEN shall waver not in resolve, for DEN shall falter not in their future steps forward, for DEN shall grant not mercy to the nativedom and defenders they continue to scourge to this day.

Crosswords: Did you get it right?

SPOILER | Sergeant Tyegëa

“I took this. I'm pretty sure I got all of them except the last one, 3 down. Sigh.” — Cormac Stark
Now these words may not be cross, but this is definitely a crossword. And it goes in one direction and the other direction: down and across. Perplexing many, but only one brave soul dared to complete it and sent the answers off to Esooreet. But we saved the worst till last: 3 down. Now you might be thinking, “What the bleep was 3 down?” but think no more, for the answers are as follows, with compliments:

1. Knot | I did ____ see that coming! 4. Rose | A ____ by any other name would smell just as sweet. 5. SunRawr | Last Field Marshal of DEN before its current incarnation. 6. Grippsholm | The RLA spy who succeeded Franks as Field Marshal upon the latter's retirement. 7. TITO | Seized the region of DEN from raiders in 2005. 8. Isaraider | Mallorea and Riva is the Patriarch of the raider family _________. 9. Gest | ____ is best. 10. Tommy Franks | The most notorious Field Marshal of DEN and founder of The Jolly Rodger. 2. Of Crazed | A former Field Marshal of DEN who was elected Delegate of The South Pacific. 3. North West Somerset | The youngest member of the High Command in the history of DEN.

And since we’re being really nice here, North East Somerset is also acceptable as the answer to 3 down! Now let’s tell you a little bit about North East Somerset:

When most of us were just starting high school, North East Somerset was a Brigadier-General in DEN II back in the good (or bad) old pre-Influence days with MSN by his side, and that of his fellow raiders back in 2004. Now he may have been deleted by the moderators for raiding, but that didn't stop him from going on to becoming the King and now Crown Prince of Balder! How the years fly by...

NationStates World Fair IV: Now and DEN

FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT | Sergeant Tyegëa

Having unexpectedly ended up with having a booth cleared for us in this year’s NationStates World Fair -- an annual, Gameplay-wide event attended by many -- we were left in quite the predicament: what were we to do with it? With neither preparation nor premeditation, Sergeant Tyegëa took the initiative immediately and set off on preparing a guestbook complete with a badge, as well as a crossword. Receiving each and every attendee who paid a visit with pleasure, here’s what some of the customers were saying:

“DEN’s den, eh?” — Almonaster Nuevo
“Hail! Sgt Tye *salutes” — North East Somerset
“Where is the Doritos™ stand? Don't tell me you guys don't have one.” — Pauline Bonaparte
“You know, when I first started playing, you were on the list of Bad People I should never talk to. I’m so glad we grew out of that phase.” — Naivetry

Early on, our booth turned into a makeshift pub with IPA being brought in, with Arnott’s Assorted Creams biscuits following close behind alongside revelry, chatter and hospitality. But one thing stood out from the others: our badge. For something made so quickly, it was quite a surprise for so many to have the want to snaffle it up, and the praise heaped upon it was absolutely monumental.

Brigadier-General Knot also took the initiative and set off writing up the history of DEN extending well through the past decade, back to the very dawn of Raiderdom, but nothing is ever complete without a complimentary “Ask Me Anything” session!

But this did nothing to stop the two DENmates from taking part in the fun. Though Knot mostly attended to DEN’s booth, Tyegëa (under her more universal name of “Kemi”) went on a massive badge-hunt, collecting as many badges as she could and was spotted taking part in a number of activities, and became the person who made the 5th most posts of all attendees.

All in all, for such an impromptu preparation, DEN’s booth turned out to be more successful than anticipated. A shout-out goes out to whoever asked for a booth to be cleared for DEN at our very first World Fair! o/

Post count: Over 6000!

(LITERALLY) BREAKING NEWS | Sergeant Tyegëa

Despite being only seven-and-a-half months old, DEN’s forums have been growing up in leaps and bounds, and hit the 6000-post milestone in the middle of December. And even at the time of writing, it continues to skyrocket to greater and greater heights. But a few individuals here are worth mentioning as instrumental in raising the post count (counts conducted on 23/12/2015):

#1 Sgt. Tyegëa ~ 1286 posts | #2 Col. 94 Block ~ 534 posts | #4 Cpl. Annihilators of Chan Island ~ 456 posts:

This intrepid trio -- consisting of the Director of Foreign Affairs, his Secretary and a proud, long-time member of the Piler Club -- set off and sought to conquer each other in a three-way spam war. As an older member of the forums than both Tye and 94 by almost five months, Chan had the advantage of a head-start, but as the war dragged on, the newest member -- 94, who signed up to the forums only a single day after Tye -- soon got the lead of both Tye and Chan. But it was not to be.

Tye, in a last-ditch attempt, upped the ante and page-refreshing, and ever-so-gradually managed to surpass Chan and gain on 94 with her fast-growing post count. She rose through the ranks from #4, to #3, to #2, and finally managed to snatch the coveted rank of #1 from 94 Block. Many sought to compete against her, but were met with disappointment as her post count hit the 1000-post mark.

#3 Brigadier-General Knot ~ 474 posts:

As an older member of the forums, Knot’s clear head-start may be all fine and dandy, but when it came to maintaining it, his consistency is second to none. From approving applicants into DEN’s formidable army, to meeting each and every new member’s introductions with warmth and salutations, Knot is testament to the fact that it’s not always spam that makes the world forums go round, but the simplest greetings, too, though Knot has participated in spam games in the past.

Christmas presents: drowning in promotions with a banner on top!

EPILOGUE | Sergeant Tyegëa

Christmas time is here and so is DEN’s spirit, festive as ever at this time of the year! Sergeant (or should we say, Lieutenant) Tyegëa went full-on Santa Claus and gifted the region with a new forum banner (with the instructions NOT to open the spoiler until Christmas Day, or else the unfortunate peeper would find themselves on Santa’s Naughty list)...

But Tyegëa was not the only Santa Claus that had come to town: the High Command also got themselves into the holiday spirit. And for all their hard work and dedication to the region, the following soldiers have received much-deserved promotions, some of which were long overdue...

First came Corporals in their viridian masks and second chevron:

Nom de guerre: 9003
Previous rank: Private First-class
Current rank: Corporal

Nom de guerre: Brysor
Previous rank: Private First-class
Current rank: Corporal

Nom de guerre: Chingis
Previous rank: Private First-class
Current rank: Corporal

Nom de guerre: SirZane
Previous rank: Private First-class
Current rank: Corporal

Next up to the podium were the Sergeants in all their iridescent greens and third stripe:

Nom de guerre: Malvacka
Previous rank: Corporal
Current rank: Sergeant

Nom de guerre: Varax
Previous rank: Corporal
Current rank: Sergeant

With honours, the newly-fledged Lieutenants were inducted as officers in their own right... with their smexy gold bar! Let’s hear it for:

Nom de guerre: FatFreddy
Previous rank: Sergeant
Current rank: Lieutenant

Nom de guerre: Tyegëa
Previous rank: Sergeant
Current rank: Lieutenant

Nom de guerre: The Type 49 TARDIS
Previous rank: Sergeant
Current rank: Lieutenant

But the High Command saved the biggest, best Christmas gift till last, for a most extraordinary inductee into their own prestigious ranks:

Nom de guerre: 94 Block
Previous rank: Colonel
Current rank: Brigadier-General

Congratulations to the promoted, and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!
