Osiris Fraternal Order

Hello Osirans! I am Tomb, a somewhat long time member of Osiris (if you consider about 2 years a long time). I've always held Osiris to be one of my home regions along with TNP. Currently, these are the only two regions where I maintain citizenship. However, five months ago, I had citizenship in almost all of the GCRs (with exception of The Pacific) and a couple of very active UCRs. What made me come back to Osiris out of all those other regions is the community here. While it maybe true that we as a region are not the most active at times, this community is one of the most accepting and friendly ones that I have ever seen, though. People here are very welcoming, and they never alienate strangers/newcomers. Overall, this region is very laid back and friendly, which I really like!

So why am I running for Keeper? Well, I want to serve the community here, and try out working in the Deshret. I've read the Keeper Responsibilities and the Deshret Procedures thread, and the more and more I read them, the more confident I grew that I'd be able to fulfill all that's required of me if elected. I've served in the Legislative Branch of TNP (the Regional Assembly) for about a month as Deputy Speaker, and so I do have some experience in terms of updating rosters, admitting members, etc. I definitely plan to appoint a couple of Curators to assist me in my duties as deputies, and overall, I look forward to serving this region's legislative agenda and working with the Pharaoh as needed to increase activity.

P.S. I do plan to continue serving as Scribe of WA Affairs. The job (bringing WA resolutions to vote and writing a recommendation) is simple and doesn't require a lot of time, and so it should not pose a challenge.

3) The recent discussion regarding Inactivity and our State Code has suggested perhaps amending the State Code to establish a system that encourages greater activity and people involvement. If you, and you alone, had the power to change the State Code and the laws of Osiris, what would you change and why?

1.) I intend to work with the Pharaoh to increase the awareness of the Deshret's existence with on-site individual nations. I intend to do this by collaborating with the Delegate to increase recruitment efforts to bring a greater influx people to our forums, and hopefully help them integrate and participate in our region and the Deshret.

2.) They're the same thing, actually. Door mats...mat a door...(mat of a door). With that in mind, I'll be neither.

3.) Currently, I would not change anything about it. What I'm seeing in this region is a great community with an excellent set of laws and a lot of potential. However, at the same time, I'm also not seeing any efforts to manage recruitment drives in this region. It seems as if we all want the activity to increase. Yet, no one is taking the time to actually telegram, advertise, and appeal to the in-game nations to join the forum.

4.) I'm going to be working my butt off trying to advertise the Deshret in-game. We need to post regular updates on what we're doing (what has passed, failed, new members, departing members, etc.) We need to maybe do an AMA series for the Deshret to get people to come out, ask about it, and eventually join the forum.

5.) I'll be delegating some responsibility to each of my curators, and yes, these responsibilities will be alternating between three primary roles - updating rolls, monitoring on-going proposals and votes, and admissions of new Deshret members. However, rest assured that my Curators will not be doing all the work. I will constantly be out and on the scenes as well trying to learn as much as I can from the job.

6.) You know, that's a hard question. I actually wanted to introduce an amendment proposal in September that would create a citizen based legislature in Osiris (similar to TNP's), but then I dropped the idea. In order to understand my stance, you have to understand my background perspective towards this. I believe it makes no sense for us to have citizens who cannot vote. Logically speaking, if we are to call these Osiran residents "citizens," then we ought to give them their right to vote and hold office. The Counselor requirement just adds a level of incoherent complexity to all of this. It makes it harder for citizens to participate in Legislative Affairs of this region. Allowing our legislature to be "citizen comprised" would give a greater sense of freedom to new members, because they will be given so many options in this region, and they will see plentiful benefits of citizenship. They would be able to vote on issues of importance, hold office, participate in recalls, etc. As far as the downfalls go, I really don't see any. Currently though, I'm not going to be introducing any legislature as of yet regarding this.

1.) I am your future son-in law. Still counting the sheep for Kialga's betrothal, though.
In all seriousness, though, I am Tomb. I am a nerd (won't deny it) with a huge political interest (despite the fact that I'm majoring in a science field), and I am very fortunate to have found myself a valuable community of friends in NS.

2.) My plans are to 1.) Increase Activity in the region by working with the Pharaoh on establishing a functional recruitment system, and 2.) Maintain, upkeep, and monitor the Deshret to make sure that our legislative branch works to its highest ability. In a way, these two things will go hand in hand. If elected, my term won't strictly be revolved around "office work" in the Deshret only. Instead, it will be spent working with the Pharaoh and other fellow Osirans to try and improve activity in this region, because as you know, to have a healthy democracy, you need plenty of meaningful political participation.

3.) No term limits. I was really surprised actually when I first found out that we did not have term limits for the Pharaoh, Vizier, and Keeper. Of course, we do have shorter terms than most regions, but that really shouldn't suffice. In a way, this allows the region to becomes dependent on whoever's in power. While that person may not necessarily be autocratic, too much reliance on one person in political simulation games tends to ruin the whole community. So far, we haven't had anyone who has abused the privilege of not having term limits, but just because no one has, it doesn't mean we're risk free.

4.) I definitely plan to introduce an amendment aimed at putting restrictions on term limits, while at the same time increasing the amount of time that the Pharaoh (and cabinet) and Keeper can serve.

5.) Andrew...is one of my first and closest deputies and friends in this game, and so I can't answer this question without some previous bias. However, if we are to look at his term impartially, I believe it was close to perfect. He was constantly active. There were times when he expressed that he was busy to me, yet, you always see him admitting members and never leaving his duties unanswered. I think looking at his term as a whole he did an excellent job of promoting the Deshret, especially, by training three individuals as Curators. Thanks to his efforts, we have 3 new individuals who are ready to serve this region in that capacity. 10/10 all the way for Andrew.
