Forward, Osiris
Inaugural Address by Pharaoh Cormac Somerset - 27 July 2014
Good evening, my fellow Osirans!
I would like to begin by thanking my electoral opponents, War Wombat and Drexyl Nox, for participating in the recent election for Pharaoh. I hope to continue working with both of them to create a brighter future for the Osiris Fraternal Order. I would also like to thank all of those who voted, not only for me but for my opponents. The democratic institutions the Osiris Fraternal Order has established are the strongest this region has ever seen, but they mean nothing without your participation. Every time you participate in an election, vote in the Deshret, or otherwise get involved in your government, you’re doing a great service for Osiris.
I also want to take a moment to thank my predecessor and my friend, Severisen Montresor, for a very strong prior term. His contribution to our foreign affairs was significant and his ability to keep the community active during the well known NationStates phenomenon known as the “summer lull” was commendable. Each preceding Pharaoh -- from Venico BrightAxe, to Joshua Ravenclaw, to the brief acting term of Joshua Bluteisen, to Severisen -- has made a remarkable impact on building the strong community we have today, and I hope you’ll join me in thanking them for their service.
Moving forward, I would like to ask for your support as I immediately get to work pursuing the agenda I outlined for Osiris during my campaign. The Osiris Division of the Imperial Sovereign Realms Army, the Sekhmet Legion, has been ordered home to endorse me during the transition. They will remain in Osiris until my endorsement count is high enough that they can safely deploy elsewhere. I have not and will not be requesting foreign support for the transition, so I would ask all residents and citizens of Osiris who are able to do so to please maintain WA status on their Osiran nations and endorse me for the next few days. A regional telegram and dispatch has already gone out to the game-side community asking for their endorsements.
Over the next few days, we’ll be getting started on some of my plans for this term even as I await the confirmation of my Hedjet. Nominations for our monthly flag contest theme will be starting on the RMB, and you will be able to nominate a theme for our monthly avatar contest. We will also be celebrating the Festival of Osiris and all of this will be kicking off on Friday, August 1, concluding a week later. I hope both of these activities will kickstart regional activity and give us a strong beginning to this term.
You will also notice a few changes to the forum over the next few days as I implement my Hedjet reorganization. Some Temple forums will be archived. The Shrine of Apis will become the Temple of Apis and will be moved to the main level of the forum. The Temple of Ma’at, meanwhile, will be moved to Palace of the Pharaoh to give it more visibility, and shortly I will be announcing my WA voting policy for this term. I would like to encourage all citizens to get more involved in WA voting as your vote will be more important than ever in determining the Pharaoh’s vote.
It is my goal over the next few months to move Osiris forward. While we should never forget our past, we should not live in the past. When practical and prudent, we should be willing to give those who were part of our community prior to establishment of the Osiris Fraternal Order the opportunity for a second chance and a fresh start -- provided they do not pose a substantial threat to our community.
I have determined that Mahaj does not pose a further threat to our community, and today I am rescinding the persona non grata declaration enacted against Mahaj by my predecessor, Pharaoh Joshua Ravenclaw. This is an opportunity for a new beginning in Osiris for Mahaj, if he’s interested, but it is also an opportunity for a new beginning for our community. We can decide today that we want to be the kind of community that is as open and welcoming as possible, within reasonable limits. I hope to start us down that path today and I will be opening a discussion in the Deshret in the coming days to revisit the persona non grata declaration enacted against Tim Stark, as well.
As this term progresses, I hope that each and every one of you will be excited about the direction we’re taking and I hope all of you will work with me to accomplish our goals as a community. Governing and maintaining an active regional community is never a task that can be undertaken by one person, but I know from firsthand experience that our community can do great things in NationStates when we stand shoulder to shoulder, roll up our sleeves, and get to work. It is an honor and a privilege to again serve as Pharaoh of Osiris and to be entrusted with leading this community in its chosen direction. That direction is forward, Osiris.
