PRL Statement Regarding Osiris

To whom it may concern:

On behalf of the People's Republic of Lazarus, I wish to notify the Osiran Fraternal Order that the PRL recognizes it as the government of Osiris. It has become evident to the PRL that dedicated native residents of the region, such as Lord Ravenclaw and Mad Jack, accept the OFO as their government, and we are compelled to respect the wishes of the popular people's front in Osiris. The PRL does not agree with the OFO's military alignment, nor does it agree with the permanent banishment of Dalimbar, but nonetheless, the OFO is the undisputed popular government of Osiris, and the PRL firmly believes in its cause of people's government.

Now, it should also be known that our recognition of the OFO is not unconditional, and we will not attempt to portray an image that indicates otherwise. Indeed, should the OFO lose the support of the people of Osiris, we reserve the right, if not the obligation per the beliefs of the PRL, to at least express concern, and at most withdraw our recognition of the OFO.

We hope that our recognition of the OFO removes one less obstacle on Osiris' pathway to newfound success and stability. We wish the peoples of Osiris the best of luck in restoring order to their home. May 2014 fair better for Osiris than 2013.

As a note, I was asked on IRC about the fact that we will withdraw our recognition of the OFO if it loses the support of the people. The question was whether or not this was a mechanism for us to cop out later if, say, a defender or more politically desirable front arose in competition to the OFO. The answer is no. The policy described is standard for all regions and is essentially us saying that we aren't as interested in what government you chose as much as we are interested in the fact that people want it. I only went out of my way to state it because it is especially relevant here, as you've had a government transition that made this all necessary, and because I do not want our stance to be misconstrued.

An example of this principle in practice could be seen with our policy on the KRO. The KRO lost the support of the people, and thus you replaced it; now, had we promised unconditional recognition of the KRO, we'd be unconditionally recognizing the will of the government instead of the will of the community. That's not how the PRL thinks, at least as I envision it, and that's what I mean when I say that.
