Cameron M. Romefeller for Pharaoh
New to the Ring

I'm not sure anyone was expecting this! But I'm also sure not many here know me.

Well, my name is Cameron Malcolm Romefeller, a resident of Osiris and a resident of NS in general. I've been on NS for most of 3 years? (I can't remember honestly) I started in the region The United Federation and began to play NS as initially a defender. I joined Denmark at one point and was an Imperialist for a brief mark of time, then went back to defending about 4 months ago. Besides that, I'm a NationStates British Regional-eccentric, and mostly stay in those regions. I really didn't get into the GCRs until the Osiris coup began, and then I went to Osiris and Lazarus (excluding TNP, where I was for like 3 months about 9 months ago and served as Deputy Culture Ministerthing). Regardless of that, I now come to expand my horizons here in Osiris, because I believe the region and current set up is good (A defender thinks its good? Blasphemy!) and that I can do my best to assist the region in any way I can.

Some credentials.

I have served as a culture minister of 6 different regions (British Isles, Kingdom of Denmark, United Kingdom, United Kingdom of Britain and Eire, Great Britain and Eire, and United Kingdom of Denmark) and believe fully that culture is the path to activity and unity. Culture is what defines a region along with history and community, so I strive for culture. I am a follower of Aretism, and believe the culturally efficient leading leads to better activity and more unity. I've served as Head of Government for 3 regions (British Isles, Great Britain and Eire, Kingdom of Denmark.) where I advanced the people's wishes and wants as opposed to my own. I run 2 NS Labour Parties around NS and am looking to grow the party into other UCRs as an advancement of the citizen program. I am the current Chief of Foreign Affairs of the United Defender's League. The UDL is what really threw my interest into the GCR. Not in a malicious way, but in a more friendly way.

Stances

I am a defender, but I am more of a populist then anything. This being, as a defender, I could see some questions arising as to what I would do as Pharaoh with the Military. Well for one, doing the wrong thing would cause a coup. More so however that I do not directly oppose the will of the people in the region. This region is overwhelmingly Raider, and will stay as such until the will of the people changes if I take the office. I believe that other alignments be allowed to come in and take office if they want to, but should be rooted out if they take offensive action against another. I believe that we should cater to both raiders and defenders to create some sort of a strong-knit community, and ignore differences in the region to make Osiris strong. That being said, I will stand for the people and for the people's best interest. This is a GCR, and the people are truly in command of the region. They deserve to be heard (Not that Venico or others are breaking that, because they're not).

I guess it is up to you, citizens of Osiris. I know I look unsavory with 20some posts and as a defender, but I can assure you my activity and neutrality. Ra strike me down if I fail.

Thank you.

My first few questions are specific to you:

1. I've heard of Aretism before -- if I recall correctly, it was the philosophy behind a now defunct region called Tiamat and then was important in Glass Gallows -- but I'm not entirely sure what it's all about. Since you referenced it in your platform, can you explain it a bit more?

2. You've noted that you are UDL Chief of Foreign Affairs. What kind of message do you think it would send to the raiders and imperialists who have supported the OFO since December 10 to elect a defender Pharaoh, particularly to The New Inquisition with which the Deshret is currently in the process of ratifying a treaty? How would you overcome potential strains that your election might cause in relations with our allies?

3. Would you be willing to consider resignation from your executive position in the UDL (note: not resign from the UDL altogether) for the duration of your service as Pharaoh, and if not, do you believe that position will pose any conflict of interest?

Now some questions I'm going to ask all candidates (though each may be slightly modified depending on the circumstances):

4. Which of the following executive areas do you see as most important in the coming term: Integration, Culture, Foreign Affairs, Military Affairs, World Assembly Affairs, Justice, or Security? You can name more than one if you see more than one as important, but I personally would like to see you limit your answer to no more than three so we'll have some idea of where the focus will be next term under your administration.

5. If you could accomplish one major goal next term, what would that be and why?

6. You've said you wouldn't seek to change the region's alignment while a majority of the region remains in favor of it. Will you continue to work with the regions that have been supporting the OFO since December 10 and, if so, to what extent and in what capacity? What direction do you have in mind for the Sekhmet Legion overall -- any deviation from its current course?

7. Section 2.10 of the States Code gives the Pharaoh the power to appoint Guardians of the Atef with the approval of the Deshret. What size do you envision the Atef being, and what kind of criteria would you be looking for in a Guardian? Will you be looking for short-term service (i.e., just over the course of your term), now that this is possible thanks to influence decay, or more long-term service across multiple terms?

8. The Vizier has certain constitutionally and legally defined roles -- second most endorsements, acting Pharaoh in your absence, succession if you resign, activity certification for Deshret membership. Do you have additional responsibilities in mind for the Vizier during your term and, if so, what? What will be your criteria for choosing a Vizier and do you have someone in mind already (you don't have to name them, it's up to you)?

9. Section 2.6 of the State Code gives the Pharaoh the power to veto legislation passed by the Deshret. Under what circumstances would you exercise this power of veto?

10. Section 2.8 of the State Code gives the Pharaoh the power to pardon or commute the sentence of an individual convicted of crimes against Osiris, with the approval of the Deshret. Under what circumstances, if any, would you exercise this power?

11. There is nothing in the State Code that prevents the Pharaoh from appointing himself or his Vizier as a Scribe. Are you planning to appoint yourself or your Vizier as a Scribe of any department, and if so, which one(s) and why?

12. Hypothetical scenario: Multiple members of The Empire and their supporters (assuming they have any) have planted WA sleepers in the region at or near the endorsement cap. They have begun tarting and running unendo campaigns against you and your Vizier, and you don't have the influence to banject them all. You don't yet have the Atef in place, or at least most of them are not yet high influence. What do you do?

13. Will you pledge not to unban Biyah, Dalimbar, Neo Kervoskia, Minineenee, Sentimental Journey, and Tim Stark while you are in the Delegacy, nor to allow the former four to maintain any nation at all in Osiris or apply for citizenship or diplomatic status on this forum?

Thank you in advance for your answers. I may have follow-up or additional questions. Best of luck in your campaign!

There were allegations a few months ago that you had been part of an effort in British Isles to import defender voters from Spiritus (then a region that British Isles was undergoing a culture event with) in order to prevent Imperialist candidates, such as Christopher Bishop from winning any seats in parliament.

Do you have anything to say about those allegations?

Thank you Cormac. :)

1. Aretism is a bit spread out in belief from region to region, but I follow the original Doctrine written by Leonardo Romefeller. Aretism is the pursuit of Arete, which is, the pillars of Aretism. Arete is, in itself the The Intra-regional Paradigm, which is Unity, Culture, and Passion. Aretists seek to advance the region through the Intra-Regional Paradigm while keeping the region stable and successful.

Aretism also divides the people into two types in NS; Virtuosi and Ladrones. Virtuosi are the elite, and those who attempt to complete the Pillars of Aretism in the community. Ladrones are the opposite. They hinder the community through either sloth or direct opposition. This is a very basic definition of Aretism

2. Well, I'd think they'd be mighty confused :P . In all seriousness, I've thought about this extensively. I can see the concerns stemming about myself being a sub-high position in the UDL, but I would do all that I could to serve the people who elected me. Being the leader is being a public servant. You serve the people, and not just a select group of them. I would overcome strains through talking and proof, and discussion with those who may not know me as well as others.

3. I would not consider resigning my position as CoFA of the UDL. Reason being is that I serve people in the UDL differently, as more of an assistant to the Staff. I get asked what action we take in foreign affairs, and then I reccomend a course of action. More so, I'm mostly involved solely in the internal workings of the defender sphere as opposed to placing propaganda or things like that. I worked as the CoFA in order to help smooth over UDL relations with the OFO, and I hope to continue those as well.

4. Culture and Foreign Affairs.
- Culture. As stated before, I believe as an Aretist, that Culture is one of the pillars, if not the most important pillar, of a region and it should be a goal made aimed for. Foreign Affairs speaks for itself. FA is needed to operate as a GCR in NS and I plan to help organize some state dinners and whatnot in the upcoming term if elected.

5. One Major Goal? Well, I'd like to see a very dynamic and flushed out Culture system. Osiris has a great cultural base with its theme already set, but I believe it needs a great boost. I'm looking to flush out culture in our RP and within our discussion to create a culturally enriched society for NS to bask in its light. That, is my vision.

Ways to do that would be to become a thinking hub of NS, and reward players for cultural advancements.

6. As stated before, I would work with the allies of the OFO in the same effort as is being now, maybe even a bit stronger. As for the legion, I've wanted to impliment a defense (not defender) regiment solely charged with defending the lands that Osiris has and defending the WA Delegate, while maintaining the offensive army. The Ascendancy had a similar thing, called the Sapphire Fleet.

7. For Atef? I would see the Atef being comprised of about 4-6 members, all who have experience with Osiris, and all who show great devotion to seeing Osiris flourish despite their military alignment or other political hangups. I would be looking for long-term members who could demonstrate a quality of longevity in the position.

8. Any time I've served as Prime Minister of First Minister of a region, I've treated the deputy as an assistant and adviser to assist me in the daily operations of the region I'm running. To me, the vice head is a person who can do as well, or even outdo, your current actions and is there to assist you in circumstances that require two minds as opposed to one. They'd be a trusted friend who at least knows me. Criteria would be serving in Osiris for a long term, and being active as well as devoted. Simple requirements that speak volumes about the person I am looking for.

UPDATE: Alexa has been selected as my Vizier if I am victorious

9. I would exercise the veto if it was aimed at certain members of our forum for being a certain kind of person, or if the legislation was opposed by a general outcry from the citizens (in the event that a bill passes barely).

10. If a person comes in with truly remorseful feelings, or if this person has stated that they are willing to sign a personal contract to work for the upmost respect for the region for a period of 3 months. Then, and ONLY then would they be allowed to return.

11. If any, I'd appoint myself Scribe of Ptah, only because I want to personally lead the reconstruction of Culture.

12. Well, the first thing I'd do is to call it out to the public, followed by contacting allies who would assist us, be them defenders or raiders or imperialists to defend the government and sovereignty of our community. Following that, I would either hope to gain the influence to directly banject them or make their attempts too futile to continue. Ban, rinse, repeat.

13. As long as the people support this action, Aye, I swear to deny the mentioned citizenship.
Venico wrote:Mon Jan 20, 2014 9:13 amWhy do you feel that you can lead this community better than your competitors?
Thank you Venico.

I believe I bring new face and cultural experience to Osiris. I know I can propel this community forward into more activity everywhere, and enrich the culture of Osiris to a greater degree.

Gravedigging :P

I do, in fact. The fact of the matter is, is that a vast amount of Imperialists joined the region British Isles prior to elections, and the allegations of importation (which isn't an offense in British Isles) are quite true. I imported people, not defenders, into British Isles to balance out the soon-to-be horribly imbalanced elections and to keep the essence of democracy alive in British Isles. That is all I have to say on that.

You speak about culture a lot. As a successful MoC in a few places I'd like to know your plan for this. Not to be mean, but the RPs you've established haven't particularly taken off and you have not stimulated any culture that I can think of yet. You didn't help us with the World Fair and I haven't seen you branch out culture in any significant way while being here. So what is your plan?

I asked as well... look around you. We have a lot of citizens who identify as Imperialist and I would like to be sure that you did not act dishonestly and dishonourably in regards to that election, given the views you have expressed about imperialists since that point... we need a delegate who can unite us, not one who can divide us, we do not need empire-era division.

My plan is to motivate culture by offering rewards to those who meet a certain criteria on Culture. It'll be divided into three kinds of culture.

- Intelectual
- RP
- Spam

For example. Lets say someone achieves a spam count of 1,000 posts. They'll get a special shiny medal showing there efforts at bettering the region. Lets say someone produces an essay that sparks a large discussion. They get a shiny medal and some awards and possibly recommendation into (at leas my) government for their effort. I've come to learn that in NS, a lot of people tend to go for the awards and accolades, so why not use that to our advantage by using it to create culture.

I didn't state, rather, I shouldn't have stated it the way I did. Let me state this. Those who came in were all from one region with the same alignment. These people did win government, and proceeded to take actions witch damaged the internal workings of British Isles, at one point, presenting a public execution bill aimed at letting their majority house of Commons execute people at will. Imperialists or defenders or anyone shouldn't be doing that. They all just happened to be Imperialists, so the term was used loosely.

That's an extremely jaded view of events.

It seems to be a rather common practice for defenders to cry imperialist whenever they see something they don't like these days.

Seeing as all of those who came in were from Albion kind of raises the "It's most likely Imperialist."
