If we spend to much more time in this bar I'm probably going to burn it to the ground. On the plus side I can put out any fires that spread to surrounding buildings!

Everyone can assume that the details of the two expeditions than Hasan told Dorian is IC knowledge for everyone, even if you weren't at the docks at the time to save me having to repeat it. Just assume Hasan or one of the others tells you after you arrive or something.

I'm not sure if it's too late for me to get in on this or not. If it is, that's fine; I'll just save this character for later.

Full Name: Matan ben Akiba
Nicknames: N/A
Appearance:
Sex: Male
Age: 21
Affiliation: Former Seren (Captain) in the Mayi Guard; Exiled Chief of the Ibrim
Occupation: Tribal Separatist; Mercenary
Physical Details: Six feet tall and muscular, with shoulder length, dark brown hair and a neatly trimmed beard. He has a scar on his right cheek that he received in combat and scars on his back from severe lashings he received as punishment for inciting rebellion against the Shoftim of Mayim.
Weapons: Xiphos (double-edged, single hand sword used by the ancient Greeks during the Iron Age).
Apparel: Light, white desert tunic worn over light leather armor with leather sandals.
Items: A leather satchel to carry the sparsest of supplies, including a bronze medal given to him by his grandfather and bearing the inscription Elohim -- the name of the only god worshiped by many of the Ibrim. According to his grandfather, the medal was blessed by a prophet in the Ibri homeland and as long as it is in Matan's possession Elohim will protect him in the hour of his greatest need.
Personality: Matan is idealistic and stubborn, unwilling to compromise his tribal and religious principles for anyone or anything. He is loyal only to his tribe, the Ibrim, and has no problem engaging in morally questionable behavior to advance the Ibri Rebellion. Generally level-headed and cool under pressure, when Matan's temper is finally ignited he can become reckless and dangerous to everyone around him but his temperamental outbursts often quickly subside.
Skills: Matan is a fierce warrior, a former mid-level officer in the elite Mayi Guard, trained in expert swordsmanship as well as hand-to-hand combat. Like all Guardsmen, he is well educated and is fluent in Mayi, Ibri, and the other tribal languages of Mayim, with high competency in many other regional languages and local dialects.

History:
Spoiler
Born the only son of Akiba ben Efraim and his first wife, Gilah bat Chayyim, Matan was born into the life of luxury that came with his father's aristocratic position as a member of the Shoftim, the intertribal council of judges that governs Mayim. Throughout his childhood, Matan knew only cosmopolitan affluence though his grandfather often told him stories of the humble beginnings of the Ibrim in a far away land guided and protected by the god Elohim. His grandfather taught him that it was the destiny of the Ibrim to separate from the other tribes of Mayim and return to their homeland. By contrast, Matan's father was a polytheist and polygamist who observed pan-tribal rites to worship all the gods of the Mayi tribes. His father and mother were not particularly religious but observed the rites to maintain their aristocratic appearance.
Upon coming of age, like every eldest son of the Mayi aristocracy Matan was enrolled in the elite Mayi Guard Academy. Upon graduating from the Academy his superiors found that he was exceptionally skilled in combat and strategy, and he quickly rose through the Guard's ranks. At the age of 20, now a Seren in the Mayi Guard, Matan was dispatched to lead Guard forces in putting down a riot by Ibri separatists. An elderly and infirm separatist slashed Matan's cheek with his dagger and, enraged, Matan brutally struck the separatist down. It was then that he had a vision of Elohim commanding him to stop slaughtering his own people and warning him that great destruction would befall not only the Ibrim but all of the Mayi tribes if Matan did not take his rightful place as Chief of the Ibrim and return the Ibrim to their homeland. Inspired by this vision, Matan turned against his fellow Guardsmen to fight alongside the separatists but was captured, arrested, sentenced to lashing and a lifetime of slave labor, and disowned by his father.
After several weeks of slave labor in a Mayi prison camp, Ibri separatists staged an escape on the orders of Ibri priests who had been told in a vision of Elohim that Matan must be freed. Matan was anointed by the Ibri priests as Chief of the Ibrim, and since then has been building the Ibri Rebellion just outside the borders of Mayim. Matan has had no qualms against working as a mercenary, plundering the riches of other Mayi tribes and other peoples for his own share in the profits, in order to build and sustain the Ibri Rebellion.
