[Defeated] Criminal Code Amendment and Introduction Act

Post by Yuno »

I agree
there have been Actual threats and dangerous persons. And I don't think dragging it through Court would solve matters.

Regents?
[6/3/2016 19:34:30] Lord Mazrim Rahl (Biyah): obviously she was gathering spell regents, so she could cast her end-of-term mass death spell. Young sorceress' must kill their Master before they are allowed to leave.
[6/3/2016 19:35:52] Gradea Sanguine: Makes sense
[6/3/2016 19:36:39] Lord Mazrim Rahl (Biyah): Hence, pray she learns well and doesn't have a dunce as a teacher... else the next generation that kills her will be weak, snobby and only half-trained. That is how society falls
[6/3/2016 19:37:30] Lord Mazrim Rahl (Biyah): I am a proud member of MAWS. Men against weak sorcerers/eses

[Defeated] Criminal Code Amendment and Introduction Act

Cormac wrote:Thu Oct 05, 2017 4:22 amI will be an unequivocal Nay vote if this legislation goes to vote with the amendment to Article I, Section 3(4) of the Scroll of Ma'at still in place. We absolutely cannot go back to a situation in which we are once again so hamstrung in dealing with threats to our security that the Pharaoh is forced to take extralegal action to address the situation. It's like a bad NS version of Groundhog Day in this region. We do silly things with our legislation, there is a coup to fix them, and then we do the exact same silly things and expect a different result. How many coups are we going to have to have before people stop legislating the same restrictions that always, always lead to problems? We need to be able to deal with security threats. Full stop. We need to stop playing Liberal Democracy and start playing NationStates.

We shouldn't even have a criminal code or a court. There, I said it. We were fine without one. No, we weren't just fine without one, we were better without one. Threats were dealt with quickly and efficiently, with minimal drama to the community because the threats weren't allowed to sit around for weeks flamethrowing and doing everything they could to either avoid the consequences of their actions or do as much damage as they could to the community on their way out. Why you folks wanted to replace that quick and efficient system with a slow, clunky, dysfunctional system -- which is how every NS judicial system turns out -- is beyond me, and why you want to now go even further and place the security of Osiris totally in the hands of that system is just mind boggling. Literally, can you not? Thanks a bunch.
How about removing the Article I, Section 3(4) amendment?

Hold on:
"Section 6: Sentencing

1. The Pharaoh, Chief Vizier or a designated deputy will detail recommended sentences when prosecuting criminal offenses before the Council of Priests, according to the procedure established by the Council of Priests."

Why don't you just create an Attorney General?
We could make sure they aren't a political appointment and make them an elected official.

That way you would have an independent body .

It would be much safer than putting the prosecutorial power in the two most powerful people.

It's a possibility they could use their prosecutorial power against their political enemies. That may not necessarily happen now but it could happen one day.

No we wouldn't if anything it would only server to futher politicise the choice as a attorney general should not be elected at all instead they should be appointed by a head of state or government that's what this does.
