Election: Pharaoh of the Osiris Fraternal Order

I'm going to start out by pontificating a bit. I don't know if that's appropriate, and I don't know if that is welcomed. Frankly, I also don't care.

The behavior over the past 24 hours has been absolutely disgusting and disheartening, putting it very mildly. And not by some, people, but I might even stretch it to most. The vitriol leveled at your fellow human beings reached levels that would be unacceptable in almost any other place, and yet seem all too common here. I'm frustrated, mad, disappointed, and feel like a dad whose kids brought home notes from school detailing recalcitrant behavior. Lucky me, I get to administer the first election using this new system, and probably the most divisive election I've seen in the history of the OFO. This coming from the last Pharaoh elected with a challenge system that was intentionally designed to be hostile. We all have our own ideas about what's "best for Osiris" and we all want toward working for that goal.

At some point we have to stop the politics as usual or else this cycle won't end. I'll get to the election details here in a second, but I really and truly feel the need to finally let go what I have been holding back in regards to this election. I tried to remain neutral while it was being run, so this has been building until it finally came to a head at 12:17 AM EST, 2 minutes before the end of the election. There are no winners here, and there are many losers. I'm not talking about the election, I'm talking about humanity here. Is it too much to ask for a clean election?

Now comes the fun difficult part. Sometime in the last two-three hours of the election a ballot was cast by Zaolat. There are some techincal details, as well as other details at play here. I've thought about this for some time, and have been conversing with the Keeper, Jakker, about what to do. On one hand, Zaolat was not transferred from one tracking sheet to another when Jakker became Keeper. As Jakker is an Admin, he has been removing people from the Deshret without any public notification. Previous keepers hadn't had that advantage, and had to post in the Admin request thread to get the re-masking done. Zaolat was not informed because a logical assumption was that he should have been removed, and information about a LOA was not transferred.

Zaolat hadn't voted since October. As it turns out, following an investigation, his masking had been buggered around November and was only recently fixed. He wasn't even able to post in the Deshret until it was straightened out. On top of that problem, there's the issue of his absence. He had stated several times, beginning in December, in the OFO Skype chat and to others that he was going to be unavailable for the unforseen future, without any kind of regular, or reliable, internet access. Even now he finds himself in that situation, though it soon will be remedied. The requirements of the Deshret say that a notification of a Leave of Absence must be given, but there is no prescription for where or how such a notice is given. In fact, there are even several LOA threads in various locations, so it would be irresponsible to say that one form is acceptable while the other isn't as this isn't given by law.

Ultimately, I'm inclined to accept his vote, following consultation with Jakker. As such, following the IRV protocol, the vote is tied at 12 for RON, and 12 for TAJW. I am once again then in the position of breaking the tie. This time, we have a chance to have a candidate that half of the electors supported (4 of which were lower than first place, and one voter stated that he would have changed it, but his time zone made that prohibitive) or we can start this process fresh, with hopes that we can have a clean, straight forward election. I hope that it comes across in my wall of text that I'm strongly wagging my finger at many of you, even some people I've been friends with for a long, long time. I'm hurt Osiris. I'm really, really disappointed. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

So I'm giving you a do-over. Let's do this right. Let's pretend the last few days never happened and let's run a clean election. Let's do this not because we want to, but let's do this because we have to. And believe me, Osiris, we really, really have to. I can't save you from yourselves. So take care of yourselves, and each other.

I declare this election in favor of RON. I will begin a new candidacy delcaration period momentarily. Don't let me down, Osiris.
