I think it depends on how you define regionalist.

If by regionalist we mean people who only hold citizenship in one region, that is and has always been quite rare. Even when there used to be a more firm separation between raider and defender regions, with no raiders to be found in defender regions and vice versa,
Tramiar was always welcome in Crusaders of Justice.

Terrorism perpetuated by the United Defenders League, lead by a man who has shaped his organization to have a culture of wishing to wear tights, live in forests, and possibly even dress up as furries, something which only Todd McCloud may do. I believe this war, therefore, should not be a matter of raiding and defending. It's a matter of moral decency. Don't wear tights. Don't live in forests. Don't dress up and roleplay as animals. It's wrong, and the LKE is taking the initiative to exterminate this horrible organization.

I think it depends on how you define regionalist.

I consider myself regionalist despite being a citizen (or equivalent) of six regions, with two citizenship applications pending. I consider myself regionalist because I strive not to advocate for external interests, and I try to keep my other regional hats separate. Usually pretty successfully. To me, regionalism just means pursuing your region's interests to the exclusion of other regional or ideological interests you bring with you from elsewhere.

If by regionalist we mean people who only hold citizenship in one region, that is and has always been quite rare. Even when there used to be a more firm separation between raider and defender regions, with no raiders to be found in defender regions and vice versa, it wasn't that uncommon to find defenders in more than one defender region or raiders in more than one raider region. Maybe not to the same degree we see today, but it happened, and most who call or have called themselves regionalists aren't exclusive to one region.
I'd define a regionalist as someone almost exclusively loyal to a signal region and its particular interests, rather than striving for multiple region's interests even if they come under the same labeling umbrella. ie. "Imperialist". I link the word "regionalist" to being the equivalent of a "nationalist", and if we dare further link this to real life, that is almost always a trait that comes with exclusive singularity.

I'm referring to a middle ground between your two original definitions. Where a regionalist is not a person who isolates themselves in a single region, but someone who may branch out usually in a practical manner in aid of that original "mother" region. Their loyalties, and most of their time, still remain devoted to that home region as a fundamental regionalist.

Under this definition, I believe this "breed" to be dying out, not because regionalists are leaving the game, but because of a cyber globalisation (it's everywhere :P ) that we are seeing in NS. Particularly in relation to the formation strong power groups between massive regions that mean long term NSers become just as ingrained in other like-minded regions as they are in the before mentioned mother region.

Look what you started, Vac. ^_^
