1922 - 3 April, Joseph Stalin is appointed General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union

1923 July 24 – The Treaty of Lausanne, settling the boundaries of the modern Republic of Turkey, is signed in Switzerland by Greece, Bulgaria and other countries that fought in the First World War, bringing an end to the Ottoman Empire after 624 years.

1924, 13 April: The Greek republic referendum is held, in which 70% of voters support the abolition of the monarchy and formation of the Second Hellenic Republic

1925 January 3 – Benito Mussolini makes a pivotal speech in the Italian Chamber of Deputies. Historians now trace the beginning of Mussolini's dictatorship to this speech

1926 Jan 27 Physicist Erwin Schrödinger publishes his theory of wave mechanics and presents what becomes known as the Schrödinger equation in quantum mechanics

1927 Apr. 12th - The Royal and Parliamentary Titles Act renames the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The change acknowledges that the Irish Free State is no longer part of the Kingdom.

1928 - The Soviet Union orders the exile of Leon Trotsky.

1929 June 7 – The Lateran Treaty, making Vatican City a sovereign state, is ratified.
