The fact we don't pull any kind of bullshit regarding "You must have X amount of posts to pass" in the OFO is something I've considered a positive compared to the way other regions run things. I get the intention behind this, but a post count requirement for maintaining Councilorship is something I won't support. In my opinion, a post count shouldn't determine anything.
Personally against.

This really doesn't seem like a good idea. If you were going to change the system, I believe a certain amount of weeks or months should be spent in the region before joining the Deshret. I still prefer the system we have now though.

The system we have now is too burdensome on the Keeper. It's easy for people who don't serve as Keeper to prefer the current system, because they aren't the ones who have to maintain it. It eats up a large chunk of the Keeper's time and energy -- when done correctly, but sometimes it just isn't done, which is another issue -- and is probably directly contributing to why we've had some relatively inactive Keepers in the recent past.
As I've stated, I would be fine with either this proposal or getting rid of the vote tracking requirement and having no activity requirement at all. I'm not fine with keeping the current system, and no one else should be either. You're basically asking the Keeper to constantly do tedious, time consuming work for no apparent reason.

I can see the logic behind this, and would support it regardless of it being two or five posts.

I've appended a consultative poll to this thread to determine which, if any, activity requirements we actually want. I'll move forward with this proposal -- or not -- from there.

In my opinion, keeping track of the region's votes as a Keeper should be part of the job description, not omitted from it as a 'heavy burden'.Cormac wrote:Wed Feb 17, 2016 2:24 pmThe system we have now is too burdensome on the Keeper. Serve a term as Keeper and you won't be of this opinion, frankly. It's one thing to track votes in the sense of keeping a tally of aye, nay, and abstain, then recording it. It's quite another to constantly record whether each individual in the Deshret has voted in four consecutive votes. It took up almost all of Douria's time as Keeper and that was when he only needed to track three consecutive votes, before we changed it to four.Ridersyl wrote:Wed Feb 17, 2016 10:50 pmIn my opinion, keeping track of the region's votes as a Keeper should be part of the job description, not omitted from it as a 'heavy burden'.
It's very easy for people who aren't the Keeper to say they should just do their job. When the job is tedious, time consuming, and frankly shitty, one has to wonder why anyone would do it, given that this is a game and is supposed to be enjoyable -- and perhaps that's why we end up with inactive Keeper after inactive Keeper, and a Deshret inactive enough that it sometimes takes months just to have four votes.

To your point... I have done tedious, time-consuming, and frankly shitty jobs on this game. I was a prolific tag raider who made dozens upon dozens of raid reports. Tagging and compiling raid reports are two processes in raiding that are not fun and cause significant burnout. I understand. That being said, here in the OFO, you just need to have the right person for the job. Someone that won't get burned out in the amount of time a Keeper's term lasts.
If Keepers getting burned out by their workload and going inactive is really the problem that you're attempting to address here, maybe shorter Keeper terms are a better solution than trying to rework or eliminate the responsibilities of the position.

How much shorter than two months are we going to make a term?Ridersyl wrote:Wed Feb 17, 2016 11:21 pmIf Keepers getting burned out by their workload and going inactive is really the problem that you're attempting to address here, maybe shorter Keeper terms are a better solution than trying to rework or eliminate the responsibilities of the position.
It's not the length of term, honestly. Vote tracking is horrible from the first day and people instantly hate doing it. It was Douria's only major complaint during his terms as Keeper, and he was arguably the best Keeper we've ever had in the office. If even he hated doing it, I don't think it's just a matter of finding the right person -- the system itself is broken and needs fixed.
