Jakker for Keeper

Post by Jakker »

Hello all,

I decided to run for keeper because I believe that I can bring a different approach to the position. My experience within Osiris extends both from the KRO and OFO, most recently serving as Vizier, a Scribe, and an admin of the forum. All of that has allowed me to see a lot of the community and that will be my focus as keeper: community. The two themes that I will work towards throughout my term to strengthen the community and Deshret is access and activity.

Access: Currently, I believe we can do a better job of making the deshret as a whole more accessible. That involves organizing the Palace forum area, which will involve rearranging things a bit. I will want to talk to you all, but currently I am thinking of cleaning up the old threads and splitting up the subforum, so that the voting floor is its subforum. I want to make sure we can have multiple discussions and votes without they being lost in the mix.

Additionally, accessibility to me involves outreach. Reaching out to citizens when votes and discussions are occurring (on skype, the forum, and in-game). Reaching out to nations in-game to join the forum. I want to use the Keeper position as a vessel to get new blood in the region.

Activity: In regards to activity, this takes a village. But I cannot ask for citizens to be active or propose amendments/new legislation. Instead, I will set opportunities for citizens to be active. First, I will make contact with every Councilor and check in with them. I want to build a connection with each of you and understand what you would like to see from me. I am here to support you all.

To expand opportunity, I have an idea to do a weekly brainstorm. We will take a different theme or subject and discuss what currently exists in regards to the topic, what ideas people would like to see, and work together to potentially make changes. The goal is not necessarily to change what we have. Rather, it is for people to have engaging conversations and really understand the laws of the OFO. We need to each develop personal responsibility of our region and I believe this will be a way to engage ourselves in the state code.

These are just some ideas I have. As I mentioned, my focuses will be access and activity. I will measure success through measurable goals I set for all of us such as working towards X number of councilors. This will be a group effort and I will be a keeper who facilitates connections and gives our community the opportunity to fully engage themselves in Osiris.

Thank you for your time and please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Jakker

I'm confused on what you plan to do regarding the voting floor. Are you talking about a new subforum for that, or using one of the existing subforums (e.g., we used to use People's Palace for Deshret votes for a while, but that got messy when elections rolled around)?

I largely agree with your platform goals though and I hope we can work together on these things regardless of who's elected. Good luck!

Thanks Cormac. It would be a pleasure to work with you <3

Ultimately, I think the Palace of the Deshret is too cluttered in general. I think it would benefit us to at least talk rearranging the Keeper's Courtyard, the People's Palace, and all the voting thread. One potential idea I have is to create a new section to distribute all that information.

I just think for me personally, when there is a vote or two happening along with multiple discussions, it is more challenging to know what's going on unless you actively search the Palace. It can be especially challenging for new citizens potentially looking to apply to the Deshret. With accessibility comes making everything as clear and easy as possible for citizens to know what is going on. I believe this can lead to more voting and activity overall. Another idea is adding something to forum that highlights when a new vote or discussion is up. I can talk to Tim of doing this to the WFE as well.

This will require a conversation with all of the councilors, hedjet, and forum admin to really flesh out what works best for everyone.

I definitely agree that the Deshret can use some uncluttering and better organization, and I would definitely support a new subforum specifically for voting. Thanks for the quick answer!

Hi :D I got some questions here for all those running.

1) What do you think are the 3 best qualities about yourself (they do not have to linked to your role as Keeper)

2) Who would you say was the best Keeper and why?

3) Under what circumstances would you deny an applicant entry into the Deshret

4) How many terms do you want to serve if you are elected?

5) What will you do differently (if anything) that other Keeper's haven't done

6) What are your opinions of a citizen-based and an elected legislature? Can you list the pros and cons of each?

7) How many Curators will you be having in your term and how will you manage them? Will you assign individual curators specific roles?

8) Do you think that the Voter Registry is still useful? If not, why and what would you do instead?

Good luck :D

Thanks for the questions, Andrew.

1) Three great qualities/skills about me is that I know how to lead and coordinate people, I am personable/chill/approachable, while also being serious, and I know how to be adaptable to maximize the environment and people around me.

2) Of my time, Aincora was the best in my opinion because of his activity, organization, and efforts to really make the most of the position. He brought a strong presence to the position.

3) If we were currently holding an election, that would cause temporary denial. Other than that, every situation is different but denial would be the rare exception, not the rule.

4) I am running for the current term and that is what I plan on serving for now. My focus is on the present.

5) Consistent activity, bringing more to the position than simply leading votes, and working to be as organized as possible.

6) Citizen-based gives more voice to the overall community and ideally, promotes more broad activity, but relies on a large group to all stay active (otherwise it loses its benefits). Elected allows for activity and personal responsibility to be driven from a few people who are choosing to do this for a short period of time, but takes away personal responsibility from the masses.

7) I don't think curators have been utilized as well as they can be. Currently, I only have one curator in mind and we will work together to draw out a position description, so they have specific responsibilities and goals.

8) It can be useful if updated and given more presence. It is necessary to keep track of who is voting, for what, and their activity.
