So based on the recommendation I received recently via the shout-box, I have decided to submit some of writing in this subforum, and I hope that other Osirins (spelling?) do the same, because that would be cool and I think it would help to generate more activity.

EDIT: Expect a few drafts over the next few days.

Reality is what you make of it.

The veils of reality part before me as I run.

Fog swirls around a pointed rock on my left, The sound of snuffling comes from behind the rock.
The smell of rain hangs in the air.

Shifting, the fog breaks and the sun is brassy and small in the distance. More rocks litter the ground thrusting up through a volcanic plain.
I run faster, and the clouds scud across the sky like stop motion photography. Dust fills the air, it's acrid leaving a bitter tang in my nostrils.

My heart thunders in my chest, the sound must be audible. The brassy sun spins down into the horizon.
A gibbous moon rises behind my left shoulder. The ground gives way to a gravelly plain. A blue shooting star streaks across the sky, and another and another.
The colors change, the stars are bright green pinpricks in the night.

The gravel gives way to sand and sedge grass. Sweat pours off my body. Reaching over my shoulder I adjust my sword, loosening it in the sheath.
The moon explodes and metors rain down behind me on the recently quitted plain. The smell of ozone fills the air.
A red giant rises to my left taking up most of the sky. I push harder, riding the thrust of power for all it's worth.
A gentle hill covered in more and more grass as I climb. A fairy ring of purple mushrooms at the top.
I start down the other side toward a standing stone, a lone sentinel of a forgotten age. I turn right at the stone keeping the hill between me and the heat of the star.

It's like an equation, I add and subtract things around me solving for the place of my desire.
My head begins to ache near the back of my skull, soon I will have to rest.
The grass is well manicured the sun has shrunk to it's normal size and color behind the hill.

A tree in the distance, and then another. Soon I am running through an evergreen forest. The smells of fresh pine and cedar surround me.
I slow a bit and breathe deeply of the fresh air. The trees get steadily larger as i push on giving way to beech and then to oaks.
Birds protest my passage. A white stag leaps from my left and runs down a trail to my right. I turn and follow him, he disappears around a bend.

In the distance hounds bay in pursuit of the stag. The underbrush gets thicker muffling their sound and the trail turns upward.
Soon I can no longer hear them, the forest becomes still. The trail becomes more rocky as I climb. Above me I can see huge boulders covered in moss.
I enter a series of switchbacks, a small stream runs alongside the trail.
Leaving the trail I follow the stream to a small glade and pause for a second.

Looking around at the tumbled moss covered rocks I smile. crossing to the spring in the center of the glade I kneel and drink deeply.
The water is sweet and so cold it makes my teeth ache. Splashing some on my face I rid myself of some of the desert grime still stuck to me.
After refilling my canteen I rest with my back against a rock to take my lunch. A dried apple and a peanut butter sandwich.
The ache in my head subsides slowly while I refresh myself. The power to shape reality can be exhausting, I have to pace myself.

This is not my world, but it is one of my favorite places to visit. I wait a while hoping to see her.
She will not show herself to me though, I am not of the blood.
Rising I drink from the spring again and begin to make my way down to the sea and the city there. Mayhap they will help me, or perhaps not.

I jog down a different hill than the one i climbed. moving now through an old growth redwood forest.
The trees get thicker and older the farther I go until eventually I am surrounded by towering sequoias.
The shadows are deep but nonthreatening.

I catch sight of a mountain rearing to my left through a break in the trees. Just a glimpse and it is gone.
The vale around me is quiet, the animals protest my passage in silence. The undergrowth fades out, leaves rustle underfoot at my passage.
A squirrel chatters somewhere off to my right.
I have arrived at the world of my desire. Releasing my hold on reality I begin the hike across the valley toward the sea.

This was written in high school (so over a half decade ago :P )

Only Had I Known

There she goes, the seraph guiding her wings in the morning mist,
gaining altitude as Time tolls.
She journeys to the endless possibilities of the universe where her full potential will be realized.
I lay on the once lively ground,
watching her pass clouds with grace.
I dare not disturb this process,
for I know she will one day stop for a moment and join in conversation,
for she is an angel.
There are times when I am watching her and selfish thoughts enter my mind.
Contemplating interrupting for a part of me feels she won’t stop otherwise.
Desires to enjoy for her presence,
a presence that few have the opportunity to enjoy much,
so why should I be complaining?
I know in my heart pure love, understanding, caring, selfishness.

She is no longer in sight.

I will wait for her as I always do.
I capture glimpses of her,
at times feeling hope betray me,
at times wishing I knew what to do.
I stand from my original position, disappointment, understanding my place.
I look down, avoiding the sky’s mocking ways.
There I see, a lily.
Beautiful in every way.
Innocence, intelligence embodied her.
She brought life. She brought hope.
A distance sound arose from her petals trying to explain.
If there ever comes a day when I’m not there,
I’ll always be with you.
And so she was.
And I sat once more, smiling…remembering the pleasant memories.
Blocking those negative thoughts for the time being.
For the time being.

Cool! Here's a very rough draft of a chapter for a novel I'm procrastinating on:

Daniel Hatwin sat in his chamber as the sun rose, writing. His bright blue eyes stared intently at the paper. He had already been awake for some hours. Perhaps this is a hobby better suited to monks than to the Noble of Nobles of Valenthera, as my advisors suggest, thought Daniel. But then again, he found it relaxing and besides, he thought when have I ever listened to those fools. Good way to go mad.
A thought occurred to Daniel, and he frowned. He motioned over a servant who was sweeping the floor near the wall of Daniel’s study, eyes downcast. Trembling, the servant hurried over.

“Yes, my lord?” said the servant.

The old Duke scrutinized the servant’s face. “You are new here, aren’t you, lad?” he said slowly

“Yes, sir.” Said the servant

“Well, there is something in this castle that I’ll wager you don’t know about. All of my other servants are aware of it, so that if worst comes to worst and we’re besieged, they know what it is that they’re fighting for.”

“And what would that be, sir?” Mumbled the servant.

“Follow me,” Daniel pushed aside a bookshelf, revealing a hidden staircase. The servant followed him down as he descended. The stairway was gloomy as they descended, with only occasional torches to light the way. Even these spluttered, for Hatwin castle had been built in a pond of the Turnersville marshes, which served as a moat, and water slowly dripped from the staircase’s low ceiling. Finally, much to the relief of the servant as well as the old Duke’s joints, the long stairway ended in a large door. Daniel turned to the servant “This, boy, is the coat of arms.”

“But, my lord, I already know the coat of arms!” The servant insisted, reciting what every Mid-Lander old enough to understand knew by heart. “Hatwin. Red and blue with the star and the crown! Everyone knows that!”

Daniel considered for a moment. “Not that one,” he said

The servant’s protests faded into a stunned silence as Daniel opened the door, revealing a large room whose ceiling was well-sealed with pitch. The centerpiece of this room was a massive banner that nearly took up the entire far wall. The device on this banner was a gauntlet grasping tightly to a sword. Around this sword was woven a green snake with enormous fangs. Below this were the words “Propterea non timebimus!”

“It means “I shall not fear,”” said the old Duke, answering the servant’s question before it was asked. He stood silently as recognition dawned in the servant’s eyes.

“But that’s…”

“The banner of the old Hatwin kings, from before the War, yes.” Said Daniel

“But everyone knows that it was destroyed. My grandfather says that his father saw Edmund Fox burn it on the Turnersville green.”

“What was burned was a carefully crafted replica. This, however, is genuine.” Said Hatwin, indicating the banner.

“Just think of it, the glory you could have under this banner,” said the servant, growing increasingly excited. “Why, the Hatwins could be kings of Valenthera again.”

“Yes, that’s the danger of it,” said Hatwin, “There have been many men, and good men at that, who died for this banner, and many of those died needlessly. They were simply consumed in spirit by the allure of an ideal. Now that ideal is in the past, and it will remain there. The banner stands as a symbol of what was lost and what may one day come again.”

“I imagine the king would be most unhappy if he found out that his great-grandfather burned a false banner.” Said the servant, a thoughtful frown on his face.

The Duke of Turnersville smirked. “I suppose he would at that. But far cleverer men than him have come and gone without even the slightest suspicion that such a thing might still exist.”

The servant looked perplexed. “But, my lord, how do you know that I won’t tell anyone?”

Daniel tilted his head slightly, a questioning look on his face. “Do you think that anyone would believe you?”

The servant considered this for a moment. “Well, no.” he said, “I don’t suppose that they would. I mean everyone has some ancestor who saw it burn, just like I do.”

“Exactly, my lad, exactly.” Said Daniel as he walked away.

Now, to make preparations for the king’s feast, Thought Daniel as he walked up the stairs. First, about a retinue.
Within a few minutes, he was in the central courtyard of the castle, standing next to a small round table with six seats. He took a hunting horn from its hook and, after drawing breath into his aging lungs, gave a long blow into it. A single, reverberating note echoed around the castle, summoning the Duke’s council to their seats. First came Daniel’s brother Marcus. At first glance, Marcus appeared to resemble nothing so much as a massive rubber ball, but Daniel knew better. He knew that his brother’s appearance belied not only enormous strength, but great cunning and intellect as well. Marcus waddled into the courtyard carrying a large platter of pork sausages, which he was devouring rapidly. As he chewed clumsily, pieces of food fell from his mouth onto the ground, where many were apprehended by an enterprising crow.

“What is it now?” wondered Marcus loudly.

“Prepare the guards for a journey to the king’s feast, Marcus.’ said Daniel. “Make sure that there are enough to discourage any trouble along the road.”

“But I like trouble,” complained Marcus gruffly. “It’s so much more fun that way!” He sighed and began to wander off to prepare the retinue, his large gray beard and mustache shivering on his enormous chin. Realizing that it would be best to appease his brother, Daniel called out to him.

“Oh, and Marcus!” he shouted. His brother turned to look at him.

“What is it, brother?” asked Marcus.

“Could you perhaps… interrogate that highwayman we have in our dungeons? Try and see if any of his friends will try crossing the Shodder border as he did.”

A cruel smile wormed its way onto Marcus’ face at the mention of the word “interrogate.” “I certainly will brother. I certainly will.” Marcus walked back into the castle, grinning hugely, his earlier complaints forgotten.

The next person to enter was Daniel’s sister Eleanora, a stern-looking woman of about fifty years. She served as his financial adviser. She sat patiently and listened to Marcus complain.

“What of espionage, brother?” said Eleanora “Shall I send a letter to your daughter in law and tell her to look out for any schemes against the house of Hatwin?”

“No, I think not.” replied Daniel briskly. “You know as well as I do that I can handle myself in that regard.” Eleanora smiled and nodded. The last person to enter the courtyard was Daniel’s Lord Spiritual, a young and hard-featured priest named Garret of Old-ford. He looked refreshed, despite the early hour “You called, my lord?” said the priest, without any discernible expression on his face.

“Yes, Garret.” said Daniel. “While we are gone at the feast, I want you to use what resources you have at your disposal to seek out and prosecute any heresy or other problems you may find.”

“Of course, my lord.” Said the priest, nodding his head “I understand and will, of course, obey.”

“Thank you, Garret,” said Daniel. “And now, if no one here minds, I believe I shall go back to my writing.”

Black of night and black of mind
Shattering of heart with fall
To Marshal herself did bind
Only to bear but his pall

Bleeding heart bleeding forth soul
As Angels brought down their sword
Fractured never to be whole
Till returns Dark Rider Lord

Agony and turmoil
Overcoming weakened mind
Parried near the grave soil
Saved by Eros painted blind

Love-lies-bleeding till the end
Broken heart and broken will
To his grave she still does tend
Love that Angels could not kill

Walking away from the grave
Shedding the last of her tears
Embarks on a quest to save
Him while fighting her own fears

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Hearken back to days gone by
She who left without a trace
Standing before Riders high
As they granted her their grace

As she stands before Marshal
Is it true that which you say?
Report it should it befall
Block to hold the Gog at bay

Talk more to Marshal so young
Kindred spirit found indeed
Most when he heard notes she sung
Tender heart planting its seed

Through the dawn till eventide
As warmth grows in each their heart
Days and hours they confide
Never to be torn apart

Trust and warmth and fate entwine
She feels the time to confess
Heartless deeds crossing all lines
Trust in heart that none would bless

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Shock and horror ensuing
Trust fractured with her psyche
Why would you do such a thing!
Blind with passion not to be

Soweth seed and groweth heed
Of wariness and dark fear
Of last wreaking blackest deed
As she lost his trust so near

But seeth her into his heart
Loss of faith and trust fading
But she sensed Eros and dart
As both together did bring

Fading resolve with the day
As he showed at last his Face
Flaxen-haired of the rare Fae
As she sees in him his grace

Prophecy seized her that night
Fateful line where all could see
Giving Marshal but a fright
For could their love ever be?

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Sorceress seeth the arcane
Opening heart of Marshal
His fawning half-truths in vain
For she saw but through it all

Facing him with resolve true
As she did in days of old
Soothing soon his inner rue
Seeing in him heart of gold

Resolve fading with the day
Spake the truth he did at last
Same was all that she could say
As the bones of Fate were cast

Holding close never to part
As ivy of Fate entwines
Twain bound in a single heart
With the blurring of the lines

Embers warming as night falls
Flames of passion soon to flare
As inner heart makes its calls
For all hidden laid but bare

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Holding close as night grows strong
Sins of passion engulfing
For what was to come so wrong?
To cast off the silver ring

Not mere hearts but flesh as well
Bound as twain into one soul
Innocence lost with the fall
But ever loyal to Noll

Bound in heart and bound in mind
To each other and their love
By winged Eros painted blind
As the stars shine from above

Love-lies-bleeding from the flesh
As the flower starts to wilt
Wheat ripens enough to thresh
As tears brim with his own guilt

Fear not for both have chosen
Fear not the childer born forth
Seeth her slight more beyond ken
With the coming of dawn north

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Final day together fades
Holding close forevermore
Flames overcoming the shades
Passions flare once more to fore

Came treacherous renegade
As Marshal fled in disgrace
Angels start to whet their blade
Though he fell not from her grace

Landing Day she raided still
Marching in his memory
What dies not death cannot kill
That one day the world shall see

Fractures in the soul and heart
Open as the day dies deep
Feeling spark to create art
But as night falls she does weep

Blade of Angels whetted keen
Slew Marshal and Overlord
Lamenting that which had been
Shattering the mirror flawed

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Sworn to Marshal to hide love
But in dark days come of late
Sang forth truth from mourning dove
For grief that could not abate

Hide no more for truth be told
Parted not by age or rank
Written love like days of old
In a page left all but blank

Parted not by the vast seas
Nor parted by darkest deeds
Parted not even by geas
Nor by the cachexic seeds

Acceptance and hearts touched round
Reaching far across the fence
Many hope Marshal be found
Even those on the defence

Many friends come to her aid
To find the loved Marshal lost
For never was goodbye bade
After all the lines they crossed
Spoiler
Darkened skies and darkened mood
Of angels of DEAT and DOS
Two heads cut down as they brood
The hands all soon pained at loss

General cared for less than most
Eluding all but her grasp
Marshal fled from her and post
Parted from her in a gasp

Angels laying all to waste
Head-touched commander soon falls
Major! Major! Makes all haste
Before fendas shout their calls

Vengeance falling from the skies
As natives unleash their wrath
Drowning desperate pleas with lies
As we flee on ashen path

Seek shelter in mouth of DEN
Call to arms for all present
But in all hearts is the yen
To pay respects and lament

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Broken and crippled by grief
Hear now the lamenting dirge
Of the prowler and the thief
Heart which can at last emerge

Hide no more truth must be told
Gone from sight but not from mind
Down below as day grows cold
Searching on with eyes but blind

Lament and be done with it
He is but beyond us now
Stall me not with will or wit
His star shineth upon brow

Searching through the eventide
With the few closest to me
Holding torches as I ride
Once blind but now I can see

Why do I try yet so hard?
Quiet you! It shall be told
Breaking oath to be the bard
Harking back to days of old

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Hark now back to days of yore
As Head bound to blackguard Knight
Strength subdued with shattered core
Losing all hope and the light

Midst the flames of razed regions
Midst the caws of wronged natives
Rode on ebon mounts legions
Devoid of petty motives

Major he who now dismounts
Touching tender hearts around
More times beyond mortal counts
Trusted figure is soon found

Before him placing judgment
Of atrocious deeds Knight did
See the deeds as abhorrent
Deeds that all with heart forbid

Light he cast upon commune
Raiders and fendas alike
Cast aside feuds since old-June
Blackguard mounted on a pike

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Touched at heart by the Rider
She soon vows to ride with him
But hears words of divider
Fenda bent on moral whim

Different story it would be
If you were to go ahead
Proclaiming too openly
A Rider as you had said

Fear taking hold too closely
Words of fenda but a friend
Halting her own destiny
To raid and to not defend

Hatred of Riders but bane
To the Rider-touched of heart
Hatred takes root with black vein
Tearing soon old friends apart

Darkness falling all too soon
It is but the time to flee
To Riders by light of moon
From bound Head to Rider free

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Before Riders she now stands
To Marshal she walks to though
Her words he but understands
Seeds of kindness he does sow

With her day by day to dawn
Close by staying with her still
With him she ceases to mourn
Staying with her of free will

Closer both they soon become
Trust and warmth growing once more
Closer still they can become
Till passions come to the fore

One thing neither of them knew
Hearts themselves intertwining
Warmth soon began to imbue
Feelings for them bright shining

Lapsing of resolve in him
Revealing in his heart his care
To she who was all but dim
She saw through him then and there

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Hearts opened now but with fear
Not of law but in the mind
Consciously shedding a tear
Hoping of them none do find

Addled and dazed truth she told
To the Major who helped her
Betrayed Marshal felt the cold
But still staying close to her

Resolve ebbing with the day
Innocence lost to flamed heart
Darkness hides them on their way
Fate sealed both never to part

Flames rising and warming both
Through eventide into dawn
For their love is more than troth
Never apart are they torn

Betrayal from renegade
Trusted to keep secrets safe
From the scene he soon did fade
But not from the heart of waif

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Hide from Black Angel of Death
Hide from loup-garou unseen
Run but stop to save your breath
None can hide from Stalker Queen

Angels seeking you come forth
As time starts to soon run out
As day turns to night far north
She continues on to scout

Witch-Queen and Kelpie follow
The thrice-struck follows her too
Warming broken heart hollow
Holding back the bane of rue

Sharp of scent and keen of eye
Kelpie finds a vital clue
Find not Wally do not try
Try instead to find Love True

Of calling out anywhere
She but sheds another tear
In her heart he will be there

It's not as good as some of the stuff here, but here's some mythology I wrote for a webcomic I'm still planning out.
Spoiler
In the void which was, before all things were, there existed two spirits: one who dreamed of creation, and one who dreamed of destruction. These spirits would awaken sometimes, and they would fight. In the last and greatest of these fights, which lasted many eternities since time had not been invented yet, the creator-spirit was finally victorious. With infinite possibility spread out before him, he summoned all his power and created the first and most beautiful of his creations:

Language.

With this, he could define and bring order to everything; with this new power, he first created an orderly idea of space and time. In this world, the chaotic destroyer-spirit was far weaker than his rival.

With his eternal fight finally over, the creator-spirit could shape reality in accordance with his dreams. He first created the natural elements: Air to fill the world, Earth to serve as its base, Water to dampen the earth, and Fire to warm it. Finally, the Creator gave himself a name, Denarios, and walked the world in the form of a dragon, bringing life wherever he went.

But the world was still flat and incomplete; for one moment, Denarios joined his power with that of the destroyer-spirit, and of this union was born the god Adonai, Lord of Light and Darkness, and from his essence Denarios formed the Soul.

He then tasked each of his servants–his son Adonai, as well as Nereis, the goddess of Water, Aea, the goddess of Air, Gios, the god of Earth, and Pyraon, the god of fire–with creating life in their own image.

For Adonai, this was difficult. He had two forms, one light, one dark, and he could not decide which to model his people after. The question stuck in his mind, becoming more and more urgent until he could not stand it anymore. His essence split into two beings: Fosai, the lion-god of Light, and Skodé, the wolf-god of Darkness. On their own, each could easily create his own people.

And thus, the creation begun.

One by one, the elemental gods came before Denarios, bearing the bodies they had created.

First came Pyreon, the tiger-god of Fire. Denarios gave his followers passion to burn like the sun and placed them in the grasslands and deserts to the South.

Then came Gios, the bear-god of Earth. Denarios gave his followers determination to never be swayed from their course and placed them in the mountains to the East.

After him, Aea, the fox-goddess of Air, came before Denarios. He gave her followers the boundless energy of the Wind and set them in the forests and plains to the West.

Next, Nereis, the otter-goddess of Water, went before him, and Denarios gave her followers an unstoppable thirst for knowledge and gave them the islands to the North.

Then, Skodé and Fosai went before him, both wanting to be blessed first. Denarios, seeing what had happened to Adonai, blessed them both–Fosai with an unerring code of honor, and Skodé with a burning love of freedom–and settled them on a continent to the North, hoping to resolve their fight.

Instead, they first argued, then quarreled, and finally fought. Fosai defeated Skodé and cursed him and his descendants to walk the night, feared and hated by all but their own people.
Spoiler
When Denarios learned of Fosai’s curse, he was naturally enraged.

By this point, though, it had been many generations, so the mortal inhabitants, who called themselves Stocheians, had spread across the land. Because of this, Fosai was able to hide from Denarios’s wrath. As he hid among his people, the Destroyer began to walk in his dreams.

Promising power and kingship, the Destroyer only asked that Fosai kill Denarios, his own father. Emboldened, Fosai, together with the Destroyer, confronted Denarios. Their fight rocked the oceans and caused islands to rise and fall. Fosai overpowered his father and moved in to finish him off. In his last moments, Denarios released the prophecy he had been creating:

“Every five hundred years, there will be one born to unusual circumstances. He will be gifted with powerful magic, and in his youth will learn to use the powers of each god. He will bring great change, and gods and kings alike will tremble to behold him.”

With this, Denarios’s divine spark died out. His enemies rejoiced, but they did not notice that a wisp of the god’s essence had escaped. It created a mortal body for itself, far from the eyes of those who would harm it, and lived through a hundred lives, until a son of Skodé and a daughter of Fosai stumbled into the tomb of a dead god and fulfilled that which a dozen iterations of a prophecy honored for a millennium had failed to do.

But that is a story for another day.
The last line, of course, sets up for the comic.

I love mythology and world-building stuff. This looks really interesting and I look forward to eventually seeing the webcomic.
