How to Be a Mentor
Thanks for signing up to be a Mentor! With your help, we can help new members of Osiris become fully integrated into our community!
How it works:
The CA welcoming committee will begin the process to talk to new citizens and see where their interests lie. If a citizen requests to be further mentored in a specific department or interest, then they will be matched with a mentor from this list. In other words, one of you! From there it is your responsibility to establish contact with your new mentee!
So what do you do as a mentor?
The expectations of a mentor are as follows!
- Provide a more in-depth understanding of the department/topic you feel comfortable mentoring with.
- Encourage to join/get involved with the department/topic
- Follow up with your mentee until you or they feel like they're fully integrated.
If I were acting as a CA mentor here's what it would look like. First, I would give an in-depth description of what we do and how we do it. I'd describe the festivals we've done, how we put out the Oracle, the Sounds of Osiris etc. I would also encourage them to fill out an application (and follow up with it being accepted), then I would suggest that they join (or rope them into) whatever projects I or CA were currently working on. Lastly, and this is the most important part, I'd follow up with them asking if they have any questions, encourage their ideas etc. Don't abandon your mentee!
If or when you both feel like there's no longer a need for formal mentorship, let me know and I will update the list.
If at any time you'd like to take a break from being a mentor let me know! That way we won't accidentally match you!
